Consensus: Despite having real comics in the cast, this tedious and painfully unfunny movie desperately needs a screenplay.

Runtime: 82 mins

Genre: Comedies

Synopsis: Willard Fillmore (Norm MacDonald) has been the butler, housekeeper, gardener, and chauffeur for the wealthy, shrewish Miss Crock for fifteen years. When she refuses to buy him a new uniform, he... Willard Fillmore (Norm MacDonald) has been the butler, housekeeper, gardener, and chauffeur for the wealthy, shrewish Miss Crock for fifteen years. When she refuses to buy him a new uniform, he decides he's finally had enough of her shrill, demanding ways, and with the help of his best friend Rusty (Dave Chappelle), they hit on a foolproof scheme: kidnap Miss Crock's beloved dog Muffin and ransom it for one million dollars. When this plan fails the two look for other ways to get away with Miss Crock's money, resulting in an encounter with stun-gun wielding grade schoolers, frustrated detectives, and a bizarre mortician by the name of Grover Cleaver (Danny DeVito) who is obsessed with Hawaii Five-O. Codirectors Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (screenwriters of ED WOOD and MAN ON THE MOON) make their directorial debut and pay homage to the great screwball comedy classics of the past with this frenetic, wildly goofy farce. The comedy throughout Screwed is as luscious as a cake baked in honor of Virginia's Crock's thirtieth birthday.

Screwed is an insane comedy -- not a great one, but a good one, and certainly better than most junk routinely screened and screened again by the studios.

Doesn't even have the decency to be horrifyingly funny.

The film's comedy falls like a thud in the path of forward progression, impeding laughter, believability, and sustained interest.

I can't imagine any other filmmaker doing much worse with the already-poor material than they have.

After watching this thankfully brief comedic abomination, one can't help thinking it was conceived during a 14-martini lunch.

A shrill, stupid, brickbat-blatant piece of hackwork that practically sweats to be 'commercial.'

Screwed is a low-brow dognapping caper comedy that had all the early warning signs of a real stinker.

Danny DeVito is the only cast member who succeeds in making something out of the movie's nothing of a screenplay.
