It's just a little film that strives to be likable, and is less so than it might have been.

This slight piece of work, written and directed by Brad ilberling, has some amusing moments and thanks to the great chemistry between Freeman and Vega is perhaps more enjoyable than it should be.

10 Items or Less is a hybrid of Nacho Libre and Spanglish directed by Moonlight Mile's Brad Silberling, and yes, it's as unbearably cloying and uplifting as that description sounds.

A Hollywood hotshot played by Morgan Freeman, befriends a supermarket cashier just so he can get familiar enough with acting like somebody poor, to get into character for his next movie, and the effort fails miserably.

While Freeman and Vega are mildly entertaining, the story is too safe and precious to elicit anything more than a passing sense of amusement.

filled with tiny moments that are instantly amusing, then immediately forgotten when the movie's over.

The fact that 10 Items has a 72-minute playing time before credits (containing the seemingly obligatory outtake montage) only points to how slight it really is.

10 Items or Less is a good-natured but failed experiment in meeting cute -- indie-movie style.

...Best described as an "in-betweener" -- a no-budget, often experimental project that directors and actors sneak in between real jobs.

Every potentially worthwhile or amusing moment in writer-director Brad Silberling's 10 Items or Less could be told in 10 minutes or less, with credits included.

[Morgan] Freeman is clearly enjoying himself, but his charisma and heavyweight presence can't quite redeem this featherweight concoction.

A film about nothing should at least be interesting, and while Morgan Freeman has done some great things in the past, this is just about his mugging for the camera, and unless you're going to be his stalker, that's not something one should be willing to

It's a shame that at the final checkout, the movie wants to choose paper, but instead goes for plastic.

With a less camera-friendly duo, this movie could have been a real dud. Even so, it's nothing much. It does have the great virtue of being only 82 minutes long, though.
