Reviews for Tenth District Court
I suppose it's easy to laugh at some of the film's tragic moments because Departon likens the legal system to a form of human theater.
A riveting pageant of human behavior on both sides of the law unfolds with humor, poignancy and a measure of inherent majesty.
Though it never really builds to a point, the film presents an intriguing form of storytelling, giving us glimpses of these people's lives and personalities.
[Raymond] Depardon puts a microscope on human behavior under pressure and comes out with both a social study and the greatest people-watching documentary in ages.
Collectively, the dozen cases reveal a great deal about class expectations and the notion of entitlement in Parisian society.
Many varieties of French people are here: natives; immigrants; a knife-carrying sociologist; a young, drug-dealing punk; and so on.
