Fuqua has enveloped the luckless Jamie Foxx ... in a stylishly inept mess of a movie; a film as badly flawed in concept as it is incoherent in execution.
[Fuqua's] pacing is slack, so there's no suspense, and he can't get the story in gear because he gives important details and minor ones exactly the same weight.
Foxx is a talented performer, and he has a charm about him. But this mix of comedy and action doesn't blend well, and he can't pull it off.
| Original Score: C+
Well paced, but weak on story, character, and variety, "Bait" is an underwhelming effort from director Anton Fuqua.

| Original Score: 1/4
Dripping with visual flair overkill.
| Original Score: 1.5/4
With his patter kept in low gear and his dramatic scenes played with flat sincerity, [Foxx is] simply not compelling enough to center the film.
| Original Score: 7/10
...typifies the kind of action comedies Hollywood seems to produce by the dozens every year.

| Original Score: 0.5/5
If the movies that make 'best lists' are filet mignon, the culinary comparison here probably is bait.
This film wastes a lot of good actors.
| Original Score: C
It's just respectable trash, and a dress rehearsal for better things ahead.
| Original Score: 2/5
The movie's so convoluted and half-assed it's tempting to dismiss it as unfinished.
It piles one ludicrous plot twist atop another and bothers not a whit with logic.
...a really good 80-minute action movie trapped inside an overblown two-hour suckfest.
| Original Score: 2/4
A clever premise that's hampered by insufficient direction and an incoherent screenplay.
This film is all flash and little or no substance.
