Once you've seen the first hour, there's really no need to sit through the rest, since almost everything that transpires during the final thirty minutes is easily predicted by anyone who understands the conventional storyline handbook.

Henry Bromell does a fine job of directing Panic. It's a pity he didn't write a better script.

Panic is a drama, and an overwrought one at that.

It's almost a surprise to find the villainy so real and three-dimensional.

Singlehandedly, William H. Macy turns "Panic" into a slimmed-down "American Beauty" - a passive man lashing out to break a cycle of dissatisfaction and familial strife for happiness, however fleeting.

"Panic" makes mistteps, but also takes some intriguing side roads, particularly in its unique familial relationships.

Mr. Bromell's shrewdness in constructing narrative is a bit more advanced than his directing skills, but he has worked out Panic intelligently and supported his script with an able cast.

Panic offers a more naturalistic analysis of male midlife crisis than the grotesquely overpraised American Beauty.
