Stylized as an early silent film, the three-minute SOLID ACTION LOVE PARTNER offers a TWILIGHT ZONE-type narrative about the role of robots in the household. REFLEXUS pulls a leaf from Hitchcock's REAR WINDOW and drives it home by rearranging time to thoroughly bedevil its Peeping Tom lead. The two heavies in this set are CALIFORNIA SUNSHINE and JUDGEMENT. The former combines hit men, proselytizing religious zealots, and drug-induced paranoia to produce a charming British comedy. Running 30 minutes and starring Mathew McConaughey, JUDGEMENT is a finely tuned discourse on the ethics of racial profiling. McConaughey plays a novice policeman in the small town of Judgement who pulls over a middle-aged black man for speeding. When the man can't find his identification and appears to match the description of the state's most-wanted criminal, McConaughey takes him into custody. But when the citizens of Judgement demand immediate retribution, McConaughey must examine his own morals and his understanding of justice. [More]
