Movie Info

The spirit of the mega-hit Ghostbusters (1984) is intentionally recalled with this effects-heavy sci-fi comedy from the same director, Ivan Reitman, co-starring Dan Aykroyd and debuting on the 17th anniversary of the earlier film's release. When a meteor bearing single-celled organisms crashes to the Earth, the life forms are initially confined to a cave. Before long the creatures are evolving at an exponentially rapid rate, resulting in fearsome aliens running amok and possibly spelling

Part of the problem with Evolution -- aside from the fact that it isn't really very funny -- is that it's mostly jaded; there's very little gee-whiz, almost no awe.

January 21, 2008 Full Review Source:

Paying homage to his previous and better work, Reitman's new comedy is marked by one-idea story, sporadic humor that lacks wit, and cheesy special effects.

EVOLUTION is like a chemistry set experiment that could have gone horribly awry, but turns out just right . . . Duchovny and Jones have great buddy movie chemistry

It's like Ghostbusters -- but with aliens! And guns! And no script!

This is one dumb sci-fi comedy that doesn't work in either genre.

While "Evolution" is generally fun to watch -- it would be a perfect choice for a Saturday afternoon when you feel like shifting your brain into low gear -- it's not nearly the joyride the filmmakers obviously wanted so badly for it to be.

A comedy that can't walk erect. Please, Reitman, evolve already.

As far as rip-offs go, "Evolution" is a pretty good one.

Once again, the overblown and ultimately uninvolving special effects overshadow some actors working pretty damn hard.

It won't make as much money as the Will Smith blockbuster, but it's a much better movie: less arrogant, less enamored with its special effects, and infinitely more clever.

Harry Block: Wayne, I think we've established that "Ka Ka" and "Tukki Tukki" don't work.

A fun sci-fi movie that although quite unrealistic, still provides some cool effects and plenty of laughter.

Out of all the popcorn films I have seen recently Evolution has to be my favourite, It is by no means a completely original brilliant piece of cinema but it is a good fast paced comedy to sit back into and enjoy. Duchovny and Jones work well together and the film keeps you laughing throughout.

A terrible attempt to make a new Ghostbusters. Sometimes fun, but nothing good, silly gags, awful screenplay, Evolution is a weak try to do sucess again with comedy and sci-fi of Reitman. Rotten.
