In a world where the cost of real violence and the sacrifices of real heroes are inescapable reality, there is no connection to be made with the empty, ersatz heroics of a movie like this.

Vowing revenge against the Columbian guerilla leader who set the bomb, Gordy Brewer (Schwarzenegger) heads down to Central America where he is soon caught in a crossfire between the terrorists and a cadre of CIA operatives led by hard-nosed agent Peter Brandt (Elias Koteas). Escaping prisons, diving off waterfalls, and biting off ears, Gordy seems unstoppable until he realizes his target has a wife and child of his own, and moral confusion sets in. Action fans expecting typical brainless mayhem might be surprised to find emoting, ethical dilemmas and criticism of US foreign policy in an Arnold vehicle, but they needn't worry: he still finds time for plenty of bone-breaking and blowing things up before the credits roll. Gorgeous Italian actress Francesca Neri (LIVE FLESH) is a major asset as the terrorist's wife. Andrew Davis (THE FUGITIVE) directed the film. Though it has nothing to do with the actual terrorist attack on America or political events in the Middle East, this film's mix of firemen, grief, and terrorism may still strike a sensitive nerve in some viewers. Reviews for Collateral Damage
Bound to be remembered (if at all) as one of Schwarzenegger's lesser vehicles.
Sept. 11 has made this type of explosion-filled movie tedious and Schwarzenegger's brand of heroics irrelevant.
It's the colourful supporting performances that help Arnold keep face through this enjoyable, if unessential, genre entry.
The question remains whether Americans are ready for a film whose plot hits so close to home. The answer: Americans are always ready for mindless, predictable crap.
The last decent political film made by a major studio was Missing in 1982, and as long as multinational conglomerates control every level of the filmmaking and distribution chain, nothing's going to change.
There is one terrific twist at the end that just about redeems the lazy plot, but by then we've been subjected to so many preposterous set pieces that we've stopped caring.
A well-made thriller with a certain level of intelligence and non-reactionary morality.
Time wasn't on Arnold's side. Perhaps he's growing old, or the stories are simply getting old.
'Ah-nuld' finally shows his age -- and brings maturity to the role of a man reeling from personal tragedy.
Lástima por Schwarzenegger, pero es hora de que deje la estafeta a las nuevas generaciones.
what might have been harmless, semi-cheesy entertainment last summer turns into an uncomfortable experience. It's doubtful that anyone who lost a friend or family member on Sept. 11 is going to stand up and cheer...
...will always be remembered for the 9-11 terrorist attacks. After seeing the film, I can tell you that there's no other reason why anyone should bother remembering it.
Note to director Andrew Davis: a shot of a guy running, followed by a shot of another guy running is not a chase scene.
