Sony Starts the "Grudge 2" Gravy Train
by Scott Weinberg | April 12, 2005
Discuss Article
The Hollywood Reporter confirms what the horror fans already knew: "The Grudge 2" is coming (relatively) soon. Sony Pictures has signed a 2-picture deal with Sam Raimi's Ghost House label, guaranteeing that both a "Grudge 2" and an as-yet-untitled, English-language Pang Brothers horror flick will soon see the light of day. Director of the first (American) "Grudge," Takashi Shimuzu, is back on board, as is screenwriter Stephen Susco. No word yet on whether or not Sarah Michelle Gellar ("Scooby-Doo"Wink will reprise her role. Sony is shooting for a late 2006 release date for "The Grudge 2."

Because the first wasn't bad or unsucessful enough. What is with all of the crappy sequels starting production recently? Do the movie producers want us to commit suicide?

I love the genre. Japanese Horror, that is. So anything to pimp the originals is alright by me. In addition, the temporary theatrical re-release of the originals is a double bonus!!

This is one of the worst movies of all time. I hope there's some improvement because if there isn't, i'm playing Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun

Really? I misread it as 'The Hollywood Reporter confirms what horror fans already knew: The GRUNGE 2 is coming'. No, I really thought that's what it said. I was wondering if it was going to be about a garbage collector or something.

that is insulting, the movie was damn awful, but they made a profit. So like all americans, they want more money. The first was attrocious(a boy who meows, wtf?" But lots of people will see it and it will be #1 at the box offices. Hollywood really over did this whole japanese horror stuff, the Ring was border line junk but then with this sudden craze(Ring 2, The Grudge) The movie will be horriable like the last

I'm glad I'm not the only who thought the first film was bad.
Here's an idea, and I know this is crazy talk, but how about making a horror movie from an original script instead of making a sequel or remake to a crappy film?

I can't tell you how sick to death I am of sequels. Was a sequel to the grude really necessary, especially with that ending. They could have just left it to the imagination.

i think some of you people need help. if you didnt like the grudge, it was probably becaus you dont have any imagination. you need to have it.

the ring 2 alright, but it wasnt scary, at least the grudge was scary and made me jump. i mean there were a lot of cheap scares but sometimes they are the best ones.

and to the person who wrote "unsuccessful" considering it cost 10m to make, and has made 175m worldwide at the box office. I think that the grudge was very successful.

and omg, an pg-13 rating for a horror film isn't necessarily a bad thing. even though the R-rated ones are the best, doesnt mean they are good. Saw was cult-hit trash, and Hide and Seek needed more than a few improvements. however some movies needed to go scary, visavis Cursed and The Ring Two. i hate the fact that u have to wait to DVD for the directors cut. and next month the Grudge-uncut is released on DVD. its a bit of a scam.

However i came back from seeing the amityville horror, scary $hit. about time a decent horror flick. Highly recommended.

$165 million profit, eh? Yeah, I'd call that successful too.
