INT. LIVING ROOM, CARRIE'S APARTMENT—NIGHT LOS ANGELES. RYAN is sitting on the couch. CARRIE, 25, Ryan's best friend from college, tosses a pillow and blanket to Ryan and sits beside him. RYAN Have you ever met someone whom you think it's the person you wanted to meet all your life? Someone that's really like you and can totally understand you? CARRIE No. Have you? RYAN Maybe. At his agent's party, RYAN, a young screenwriter, and JOEL, Ryan's boyfriend, meet LEO, an aspiring novelist and a college student. During an intense conversation about serial killers, Ryan feels viscerally connected to Leo as if everyone in the party has vanished. Hanging out with Leo, Ryan soon becomes infatuated. He sees Leo as the possibility of being with someone who can completely understand his passion. As he feels the imminent necessity to explore this visceral connection, Ryan breaks up his three-year relationship with Joel, despite knowing that Joel is deeply in love with him and that they still love each other. Out on a limb, Ryan leaves Joel's apartment on the fateful morning and drifts into three different possibilities of a love triangle. -- © 2001 Margin Films [More]

Reviews for Drift
A slender, intimate tale that is thoughtful and revealing, nicely written, directed and acted.
Shot on digital video, with a sharp eye for Los Angeles locales, this is a well-shaped piece of work -- despite its overly earnest characters' penchant for psychobabble.
Ryan and Leo's free-floating love for horror films seems to suggest Drift's first half could have pulled an Audition.
Excellent drama from Quentin Lee following the sharp edges of a gay love triangle.
