Consensus: Enough exploits the serious issue of spousal abuse to make an illogical, unintelligent thriller.

Rated: PG-13 [See Full Rating] for intense scenes of domestic violence, some sensuality and language

Runtime: 1 hr 56 mins

Genre: Dramas

Theatrical Release:May 24, 2002 Wide

They marry and have a child, but Slim's happiness is soon lost when she discovers that her husband has a mistress. When confronted, Mitch becomes abusive and proceeds to lay down controlling laws for Slim. As the abuse grows worse, Slim realizes that fleeing is her only path to freedom. Mitch's determination becomes evident as he tracks Slim down, terrorizes her, and uses the legal system to his advantage, scheduling a custody hearing. Realizing that flight and the law are not her strongest allies, Slim takes intensive combat classes, preparing to meet Mitch one last time, intending to kill him in apparent self defense. ENOUGH wisely spins typical gender roles beyond the training of its protagonist. Slim is aided by a sensitive male admirer (Dan Futterman), who has stamina problems, and her daughter Grace (Tessa Allen), who has admirable basketball skills. When it comes time for the climactic last battle, ENOUGH doesn't get bogged down with politics, sexual or otherwise. Instead, it gleefully delivers an elaborate, bloody, final brawl. [More]

I have to admit Lopez's new film Enough is entertaining. Lopez ... has wisely returned to a character that she can play convincingly.

Is it just me, or have Jennifer Lopez's movies gotten progressively dumber as her popularity has soared?

Works as long as it faces the horror of extreme male privilege, but dissipates quickly once Lopez begins over-preparing for a face-off with hand-to-hand combat training and calibrated techno-gadgetry.

This is a by-the-numbers thriller that doesn't even succeed on the most basic, visceral level.

Haven't we seen this movie before? Say 10 years ago when it starred Julia Roberts and was called "Sleeping With the Enemy"?

Marred by a worthless script, meandering performances and leaden direction. And a worthless script.

At the point Slim decides to run with her little Gracie you may wish to run, too -- from the theater.

A sleazy exploitation flick disguised as a serious message movie about a nutcase who beats his wife, this ultimately has as much to do with spousal abuse as The Wizard of Oz does with agriculture in Kansas.

A movie that hopes its idiot demographic won't notice the wave of vile stink slopping off the screen.

I wonder how people would feel if a room full of men hooted and hollered through the rape sequence in The Accused.

It's really the sort of movie for those who like their nuance in two colors, black and white -- there are no shades of gray in this dog.
