Preachy? Man, I've been accused of a lot of things... but preachy? lol. I have to raise an eyebrow on that one. Anyway, call it making an observation. Thing is, no matter how significant you find the Oscars or, as some are calling it, their "Superbowl", an argument that suggests it is more important than the writers (or at least important enough to warrant piling up behind the "screw the writers" sentiment) could never be logical.
