Barrie's classic story of the boy who wouldn't grow up - and the girl whose family insists that she must - has never been fully realized onscreen. Until now. Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios are proud to present the first live-action feature film version of Peter Pan since the silent era. And for the first time, a boy - Jeremy Sumpter (Frailty) - stars in the title role, opposite Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) as Captain James Hook. In stifling Edwardian London, Wendy Darling mesmerizes her brothers nightly with bedtime tales of swordplay, swashbuckling and the fearsome Hook. But the children become the heroes of an even greater story when Peter Pan flies into their nursery one night and leads them over moonlit rooftops through a galaxy of stars to the lush jungles of Neverland. Wendy and her brothers join Peter and the Lost Boys in an exhilarating life free of grown-up rules, while also facing the inevitable showdown with Hook and his bloodthirsty pirates. With unbounded imagination and the latest in visual effects, writer/director P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding) and producers Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick (Gladiator, Stuart Little) bring all the wonder, danger and excitement of this timeless tale to life. The cast also includes Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Rushmore) as Mrs. Darling, Academy AwardŽ nominee Lynn Redgrave (Gods and Monsters) as Aunt Millicent, Richard Briers (Ever Decreasing Circles) as Smee and French sensation Ludivine Sagnier (Swimming Pool) as Tinker Bell. Rachel Hurd-Wood makes her screen debut as Wendy. [More]

In this incarnation, Peter is imbued with a greater degree of psychological darkness than before.

Familiarity doesn't exactly breed contempt, yet despite the novelty of a real boy as Peter, the movie does engender a listless been-there / eaten-that reaction.

Simultaneously groundbreaking and remarkably faithful to the classic play about the boy who won't grow up.

Maxfield Parrish- influenced look, unhurried storytelling, heartfelt performances and graceful direction make for a film as comforting and warm as sitting around the fireplace.

The familiar story is not entirely bereft of flashes of reinvigoration, but they're few and far between.

Little children may find it a bit scary ... but it's a warmhearted and often magical adventure.

This latest incarnation of the J. M. Barrie play is an uplifting cinematic fairytale along the lines of Labyrinth and The Neverending Story.

If, as you go into the theater, you hear people coming out still chanting 'I do believe in fairies. I do! I do!' do not be alarmed. Soon you will be joining them.

Hurd-Wood, a newcomer, brings an earnest charm to Wendy. She's letter-perfect in the role.

No other version of Peter Pan has ever been as richly evocative of the lovely book illustrations of the Victorian era.

Peter marvels at the 'cleverness' of himself, yet communicates nothing so much as blandness, even when he's flying through the air.

What it is lacking is any kind of wonder. True fairy dust is in decidedly short supply and without it, the movie sinks like a cannonball.

What distinguishes this Peter Pan from other versions is its unsentimental insight into the terrors and delights of both childhood and growing up.
