Barrie's classic story of the boy who wouldn't grow up - and the girl whose family insists that she must - has never been fully realized onscreen. Until now. Universal Pictures, Columbia Pictures and Revolution Studios are proud to present the first live-action feature film version of Peter Pan since the silent era. And for the first time, a boy - Jeremy Sumpter (Frailty) - stars in the title role, opposite Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) as Captain James Hook. In stifling Edwardian London, Wendy Darling mesmerizes her brothers nightly with bedtime tales of swordplay, swashbuckling and the fearsome Hook. But the children become the heroes of an even greater story when Peter Pan flies into their nursery one night and leads them over moonlit rooftops through a galaxy of stars to the lush jungles of Neverland. Wendy and her brothers join Peter and the Lost Boys in an exhilarating life free of grown-up rules, while also facing the inevitable showdown with Hook and his bloodthirsty pirates. With unbounded imagination and the latest in visual effects, writer/director P.J. Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding) and producers Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick (Gladiator, Stuart Little) bring all the wonder, danger and excitement of this timeless tale to life. The cast also includes Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Rushmore) as Mrs. Darling, Academy Award® nominee Lynn Redgrave (Gods and Monsters) as Aunt Millicent, Richard Briers (Ever Decreasing Circles) as Smee and French sensation Ludivine Sagnier (Swimming Pool) as Tinker Bell. Rachel Hurd-Wood makes her screen debut as Wendy. [More]

Both enchantingly old-fashioned and daringly modern.

Every generation deserves its own version of Peter Pan. Until the next one arrives in 2019 or so, this one will do nicely.

Apparently, the filmmakers felt characterization would only get in the way of the special effects.

Hogan introduces a subtle eroticism which gives "Pan's" theme additional complexity for adult viewers which should fly over the heads of children

Action-fortified, touching and entertaining from its beguiling beginning to its dreamy conclusion.

It succeeds because it goes back to the roots of the original -- there's none of that modernizing that made Hook so tedious -- and ventures bravely into some of Barrie's more subtle subtexts.

As much a commentary on Peter Pan as an adaptation… an interesting if flawed tribute to all that is 'gay and innocent and heartless' in Barrie's enduring story.

There just isn't enough in the movie, despite its marvelous design, to warrant another visit to this material.

The kind of whiz-bang extravaganza that's OK for the under-12 set but might be a something of a slog for anyone older.

Audiences and readers have been joining Peter and his friends in the fantastical world of Neverland for 100 years, but never has the journey been so richly rendered as in P.J. Hogan's enchanting film adaptation.

If you're interested in returning to Neverland -- or taking some young person along for the ride -- this Pan will serve you well. For others, though, the flight might seem too familiar.

To its credit, this one has its share of magical moments, even if they don't quite hit the highs of the Disney version.

I walked in anticipating a sweet kiddie fantasy and was surprised to find a film that takes its story very seriously indeed, thank you, and even allows a glimpse of underlying sadness.

Isaacs tops the cast (even Richard Briers' delightful Smee) as an imperious, ironic, murderous, bitter and lonely Hook.
