Friday Box Office: "Robots" $10M, "Hostage" $3.3M

According to Showbizdata, “Robots” is off to a good start, topping the box office with an estimated $10M on Friday. It will probably gross between $35-$38M by the end of the weekend, a little bit below industry estimates. It looks like it will not break the March opening record of $46.3M set by “Ice Age,” but it’s still an excellent figure.

“Hostage” continues Bruce Willis’s career slide with an estimated $3.3M on Friday. By the end of the weekend, it will probably gross between $9-$11M. It placed 4th.

The re-cut version of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” didn’t make the top 10. According to Box Office Mojo, the film only managed a measly $70,000 on Friday in nearly 1000 theaters. It looks like Mel Gibson’s hope to release the film every March is not met with much support.

Last Friday’s chart topper, “The Pacifier,” got bummed off the top spot to 2nd place with $4.8M. It’ll probably end the weekend with $17-$19M.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are “Be Cool” in 3rd with $3.5M, “Hitch” in 5th with $2.6M, “Diary of a Mad, Black Woman” in 6th with $1.3M, “Million Dollar Baby” in 7th with $1.3M, “Constantine” in 8th with $1.1M, “Man of the House” in 9th with $0.6M, and “Cursed” in10th with $0.5M.

What Crap
Robots is nothing more than the latest brain dead CGi creation from Fox, CGI animated films were original in the 90's, but they are now coming out like industrial assebly items - cute and cuddly, but lacking originality and dept - except for anything from PIXAR, up to a point.

They make their money, sell a few millions in DVD, the disappear. I just waiting for a new wave of WWII pics to come out...
