Gambon plays Peter Moreton, a government official with a scandalous private life. His daughter, Polly (Susannah Harker), angered by her father's torrid affair, leaks the details to her boyfriend, who works for a scandal-driven tabloid newspaper and is thrilled to be handed such a scoop. As the plot unravels, it includes plenty of twists and turns.
