Dogs Defeat Daters at the Weekend Box Office

Disney's family adventure flick "Eight Below" narrowly defeated the spoof comedy "Date Movie" over the 4-day holiday weekend, grossing an estimated $25 million from over 3,000 theaters. Close behind in second place, the Alyson Hannigan-led rom-com spoof tallied about $22 million from just under 3,000 theaters.

Last week's #1 movie, "The Pink Panther," dropped to third place but snagged another $21 million, which puts its grand total at about $47 million. Fourth place went to Universal's feature-length version of "Curious George," which added $15 million to its $33 million total, while "Final Destination 3" rounded out the top 5 by pulling in another $12 million, which gives the horror sequel a grand total of about $38 million.

Debuting not all that impressively was Sony's "Freedomland," which arrived in 7th place with a 4-day tally of about $7 million from 2,300 theaters.

Three new wide releases hit the scene next weekend: New Line's action flick "Running Scared," the Weinstein's animated comedy "Doogal," and the return of Tyler Perry in Lionsgate's "Madea's Family Reunion."

As always, you can visit the Rotten Tomatoes Box Office Page for a closer look at the weekend numbers.

Nochnoy Dozor
And where is, I wonder, any mention of "Nochnoy Dozor" (aka "Nightwatch"), with its impressive $28,994 per theater take?

I heard it's gonna hit 150 theaters more by March 3rd. Finally a movie worth watching on big screen, things have been pretty bad last 1.5 months...

Surprising Weekend
I seriously thought that 'Date Movie' was locked for number one, because Paul Walker isn't actually a big box office draw, its good to see him open a movie tho. I'm even more shocked about the numbers, i didn't think the marketing was all that good...it was simple. I'm kinda surprised 'DM' didn't do better, if u look over the four days it was almost passed by 'The Pink Panther'. That wud've sucked cus 'TPP' is extremely lame. I'm actually surprised it held up so well and ditto for 'Firewall', i thought the movie wud've been out of cinemas in a month. I'm glad for 'Curious George' ...and 'Final Destination 3' - i'm a big horror movie fan [ i know it sucks, but w/e lol]. I agree with 'agent_smith_too' they shud've mentioned 'Nightwatch' the movie looks entertaining atleast, better than the crap that has been rolling out the last cuple of weeks here.

Wow paul walker actually has another successful movie other than the fast and the furious movies. That is very suprising, and another fact is he could have another one with Running Sacared. That movie looks so cool, it has a chance of being successful--and it has a very slim(very small but still has a shot) chance of hitting the number one spot. But many movie critics and analysts are saying that MAdea's Family Reunion could be the one hitting that spot.

I have no doubt that Madea's Family Reunion will top the box office with an approximate $25 million take. Never underestimate the simultaneous ridiculousness and power of Tyler Perry.

"Why do I keep throwing money away?"

The same reason why Hollywood keeps making movies...

Anyway, although it wasn't really a box-office hit, I like Joy Ride haha. Yeah, I agree with y'all that have said it: good movies just don't hit countless theaters like they used to.
