"The Ritchie Boys" is the untold story of a group of young men who fled Nazi Germany and returned to Europe as soldiers in US-uniforms. They knew the psychology and the language of the enemy better than anybody else. In Camp Ritchie, Maryland, they were trained in intelligence and psychological warfare. Not always courageous, but determined, bright, and inventive they fought their own kind of war. They saved lives. They were victors, not victims. -- © Official Site [More]

Reviews for The Ritchie Boys
A compelling account of German émigrés trained to infiltrate and fight their former countrymen.
This documentary, named for a military boot camp in Maryland, tells of a group of Jewish immigrants who fled Germany for the United States in the years of the Nazi buildup.
Just when you think every chapter in World War II has been covered cinematically, along comes an energetic, uplifting and little-known angle about the good guys.
Another wonderfully involving story crafted by documentarian Christian Bauer (Missing Allen) ... is filled with great stories, many of them quite funny.
The horror of war gets gently upstaged by the wit and wisdom of the vets interviewed in this solid WWII doc.
This is a film with a story we have not seen before, a story about American troops so unusual it needed a German director to ferret it out.
Any thinking person -- no matter what political stripe or moral belief -- needs to see this important film then try to apply its valuable lessons to today’s, still, unstable planet.
... the real brilliance of the work is Bauer's trust in his subjects.
Still witty and eloquent, these cerebral boys became the haunted men who do their best to share their experiences with us, even as they know we'll never truly understand.
