A Week of Reshoots on Zombie's "Halloween"

You might think that with the recent demises of "Grindhouse" and "Hostel Part 2" that hardcore horror is on the way out. Not if Rob Zombie has anything to say about it...

According to Bloody-Disgusting.com, director Rob Zombie and much of his cast just spent a full week doing reshoots on his "Halloween" remake. Apparently they added about a half-dozen new death scenes AND a much nastier new ending ... because we all know what makes a bad horror movie better, and that's six new kills and a gorier finale, right?

Still scheduled for release on August 31st, the flick must have gone through some fairly unpleasant test screenings if a full week of reshoots were required. Then again, was anyone really expecting this experiment to be a success? Still skeptical ... yet interested. That's me.

The test screenings werent bad, or at least the ones that we got to read. They said it needed a few different things. From what was said Im sure it will still be good, but I still want Zombie to take out that rape scene. And you havent seen the movie, so dont assume anything.

I think I heard that the reshoots had to be done because they found out there was no film in the cameras.

If that's all that was involved in the reshoots then the test screenings couldn't have been that bad, it doesn't seem that they've changed anything specific to the opinions of an audience but rather Rob Zombie may have though it was lacking. Or it could have been a desperate attempt to salvage the film.

Just a guess, I'm one of those who really wants this to be an enjoyable entry in the series, especially since if it's successful they'll replace the crappy sequels.

I love Devil's Rejects and never worried about how Zombie was going to do his version of Halloween until now.

This sound bad. I can just imagine the test screenings with a bunch of Hostel type fans all upset there wasn't enough gore or nudity so he's required to go back and dumb it down for the masses. Oh well, just like the reporter said, I'm "Still skeptical ... yet interested."

this doesnt mean anything. re-shoots are needed if zombie wanted maybe a different view of a scene, more angles. if anything these additional shootings will make great deleted scenes on dvd. im so stoked. i havent recieved one bad vibe from this movie yet, and im watching all details on it from at least 6 different websites.

Can I still assume it's STILL an unnecessary remake by a director teetering precipitously on the razor's edge between potential star and total hack? Can I assume that this has a great chance of killing his career, or is that a bad assumption based on the fact that Bol and Tony Scott still are employed? Please advise.

Why aren't they bringing this out in October? This is one of the worst marketing moves ever.

I'm uninterested as it is, but bring it out in late October and I'd more than likely end up seeing it with some friends.

I think it wont affect the movie any! It looks really good and Im glad we get an updated fresh version of a classic movie! Adding more kills is fine with me but i cant wait to see how much he has changed the ending around from the first one.

unnecessary remake? okay, the last movie had a kung-fu fighting Busta Rhymes....what part about that is okay with you? This movie is in desperate need of a re-imaging, and i can think of noone better then Zombie to do it. Devils Rejects was sick as hell and i am sure this new "Halloween" will be the same.

AICN reported two test screening reviews and both were positive. I agree with everyone here that Devil's Rejects was incredible. It was gritty, dark and outside of the current mainstream of horror cinema. I have complete confidence in Zombie to deliver a great Halloween entry - Just watch the making-of-featurette on Devil's Rejects and you will see a filmmaker who understands what works and what doesn't, and someone who has studied horror filmmaking. Zombie is a vocal critic of the wave of the Sam Raimi Ghosthouse fare that has disgraced our theaters for the last two years.

In Zombie I trust. This might be the best Halloween since the original. Or it might not. Regardless, I'm 100% sure there are going to be some INTENSE scenes in there, especially now that I read some of the early reviews.

I don't understand why everyone is so skeptical about this movie. There are such great people involved. Tyler Bates, Malcolm McDowell, Brad Dourif, Danielle Harris, and did I mention Malcolm McDowell?

Aug. 31st, can't wait.

bad test screenings might be a bad sign... might not... might be a good sign. but this could all mean the film WAS good and is now being comformed to the norm. either way, can't pre-judge it. there's no way it can be worse than part 4,5,6,7 and 8....

Come to think of it -- how many more damn films can be made about Myers? I love the first and the second works as a valiid sequel...at the end of that film HE DIES.. part 3 shouldn't have been part of the series (even though i love it). I just love how there's no consistency in this series. Now they're gonna start it all over again...
i can't wait to see what zombie does. this could be a risky career move -- this series is as dead as Myers and Loomis in the Hospital explosion in part 2.

I know why they keep remaking the classics, but really, there's a whole slew of crap horror movies with a kernal of goodness that could use some re-imagining. Why "fix" the ones that aren't broken? (And I'm talking about the original Halloween, not the crap sequels.)

Halloween has almost no blood in it but it had a ton of suspense. Graphic gore is the lazy man's horror....

Well, you fix the ones that aren't broken because those are the ones that have a positive association in the audience's minds. I mean, you wouldn't make "Total Piece of Crap 2," because people will think, "Uh, I hated Piece of Crap, so why the heck would I see this?" but you might make "Twitch of the Death Nerve 2," because people liked the first one.

I agree that the original Halloween is on a level of horror all its own. It was extremely subtle. That's one of the reasons I'm really looking forward to the remake. I want to see the other extreme, an ultra violent Halloween. I want to be scared of Michael Myers again, damnit.

I just hope RZ focuses on the girls as much as he does on Michael. I don't want the characters in the movie to just be bait, you know? The first one dealt a lot with Laurie's insecurities. She was very real in the original.
