Bloody Mathias writes: on Dec 06 2007 04:40 PM Many people think Micheal Mann hit a homerun with Collateral but not enough people give the credit to the fantastic screenplay by Stuart Beattie. It would be hard to make anything other than a good film from that script and a director like Mann who excels at the technicals of weapons and the crime world made sure that film would be remembered. Than he went to to write a convuluted, souless, and for the most part, boring screenplay for Miami Vice. He's not a good writer and he proved that here although he did his best to make up for it with two great gun battles, it wasn't enough. He also wrote Heat, which i think is wildly overrated but let's face it, about 45 minutes too long. Mann can not write a concise movie. Now he's written a screeplay adapted from a book which should prove to be a much better film than MV if he liked it that much and having a quality actor like Depp to sign on must mean that his script is good. On the other hand, Depp did do Polanski's awful 130 minute film "The Ninth Gate" so maybe i'm wrong about the quality of writing. Who knows? All i know is that i be there opening day to judge it for myself. (Reply to this) |

Mazula writes: on Dec 06 2007 06:14 PM If a person likes an actor enough to need a yearly "fix" of him then let the person have it. there's no sense in mocking the person because of it. anyway, this sounds good. I absolutely loved Collateral and actually, bloody mathias, it is possible to totally trash a good screenplay with an awful movie. I mean, did you actually read the screenplay yourself? if you apply your logic to every good movie then there are no good directors, only good screenplay writers. every good director has his good and bad movies (except for Christopher Nolan) and Mann is still a good director. Oh yeah, and to those idiots complaining about Depp not living up to Gene Wilder... shutup. The movie was an adaption of the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, not a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So if you need to, compare Depp to the character from the book, not the Willy Wonka movie. (Reply to this) |
