Jenny does not have a chance, instead is a situational plaything of the script. Even the suggestion that comes half way through the film that she is innocent is then plowed under as Four Minutes devolves into its well made play ending. I admire the performances of all in this film, especially so that of the piano teacher which required an actress of great, selfless courage, but the film itself I disliked as a whole, because to me its final intent seemed vaguely cynical, perhaps to keep Jenny in her Cage as a usefully entertaining specimen, as alien to us as we must be to extraordinary genius. This, ironically, is a caricature of the fate of many prodigies. (Reply to this) |
