You have to wonder what David Beaird, writer-director of the execrable The Civilization of Maxwell Bright, was thinking when he created his abusive, misogynistic title character.

Given to misogynistic outbursts that border on the psychotic, Maxwell Bright (Patrick Warburton) is as unlikable as movie heroes come, yet director David Beaird insists there is Zen within this modern Neanderthal.

Audience Reviews for The Civilization of Maxwell Bright

½

Story of finding peace within with help coming from unexpected places. Warburton is up to the demands of the lead but the character for most of the film's running time is an immensely off putting jerk. Carol Kane shows up for a few brief minutes to offer up a charming little performance.

I wanted to see this due to Patrick Warburton and I am glad I did a very nice way to show how a man can change

This movie has lousy production, direction, and story flow. That being said, the ending partially makes up for the major flaws. It is a story of one of the most flawed men, who has some good points about American "feminism" who hits bottom and from it, his beautiful Chinese wife literally saves him from Hell on Earth and supposedly Eternal Hell. The inner ugliness of Maxwell vs. the inner beauty of his wife and which one succeeds is very moving.
