RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: Angels & Demons, Funny People, and Superman

Summary

This week in home video, we've got a lot of brand new releases paired up with a handful of old classics making their comebacks. Among the choices from the current year's latest releases are the conspiracy theory-themed blockbuster based on Dan Brown's novel of the same name, Angels & Demons, as well as the Judd Apatow film about standup comedy, Funny People, which stars Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. Then we've got Four Christmases and Shorts to round out the new ones, while titles such as The Monster Squad, Ichi the Killer, and Hogan's Heroes make up some of the other choices. Have a look and see what could be added to your collection this week! Back to Article

Angels & Demons was a surprisingly good film. I went into expecting something as awful as The Davinci Code but got an enjoyable, if not ludicris, thriller that really pushed the level of violence you can have in a PG-13 movie. And im buying Gomorrah just because it's from Criterion Collection. That alone is worth th 40 price tag.

Is Ichi the Killer the R-rated version or the Uncut version?

Still need to see Angels & Demons. Four Christmases was pretty bad. And Funny People I thought was one of the best movies this year, definitely getting that.

Unless you are a huge fan of Tom Hanks,Dan Brown and/or Ewan Mcgregor you should not feel as if you have missed out on anything special in "Angels & Demons". While I love Ron Howard, mainly due to the genius he injects into a massive portion of his work, Suspense/Thrillers are not his cup of tea. I find it difficult to identify which one of these films I like better. Neither are what I would call horrible, but they are both painfully average. Some would argue a film being average is much worse then horrible due to the ease of forgetting mediocre films. "Angels & Demons" does have some decent special effects, that manage to look realistic even when done by CGI. It may be worth a rental, but don't waste the cash on purchasing it. It will most likely just collect dust after you watch the film once.

I was really surprised to see "Monster Squad" in this article. It may just be complete coincidence but it seems like every time I find myself thinking about a film from my past and wanting to watch it, it pops up somewhere. Although I am sure that happens to u=you guys out there as well. About 2 weeks ago I was thinking about Stephen King movies, and I remembered "Grave Yard Shift"(With the mutant bat-rat, or rat-bat. lol). A day or two later I was surfing through all the on-demand movies, and lo and behold it was right there. Sadly my excitement wore off rather quickly as it hasn't aged very well. I remembering it scaring the $#! out of me when I saw it in the theaters back in the day, but when we are at the age of 9 or 10 it doesn't take much to freak us out.

Whenever I think of Stephen King movies I always think of Silver Bullet in that way. One of the crowning achievements of Corey Haim AND Gary Busey's careers.

Gomorrah was a very good movie.

Too many foreign films fly under the radar. Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, The Lives of Others, Hero (Jet Li), The Orphanage, Let the Right One In, Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Gomorrah... too damn many.

Most people I know don't want to watch a film where they have to read subtitles.

I don't like subtitles, but that's only because I feel it detracts from the visual medium. I prefer it if they do voiceovers. That's just me though.

If I had the money "Gomorrah" from the Criterean Collection is the only one I'd probably buy, I can probably get the rest second hand down the line.

The downside of watching dubbed films of course is that they're sometimes are shorter than the original time limit as well as the alterations.
