Susan Sarandon On Her Appearance In Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones
Film based on bestseller won't be sending Sarandon to "Heaven."
Peter Jackson's next movie is not the kind of fantasy epic that King Kong was. It is The Lovely Bones, based on Alice Sebold's bestseller, in which a murdered girl watches her family fall apart from heaven. Susan Sarandon will play Grandma Lynn in the early scenes, shot stateside.
"It's shooting in Pennsylvania so I wrap in Pennsylvania," said Sarandon, who goes to work in October. Jackson's crew moves on though to complete the rest of the drama, sans Sarandon.
For the conclusion, Jackson returns to home territory. "After Christmas, I think heaven is in New Zealand but I'm not in heaven so I don't get to go there," lamented Sarandon.
The role of Susie Salmon, the 14-year-old girl who is brutally victimized and killed, will be played by young Irish actress Saoirse Ronan; look for the up-and-comer to garner more attention with turns in Joe Wright's Atonement, Gillian Armstrong's Death Defying Acts, and next year's family fantasy City of Ember.
Rounding out the main cast will be Ryan Gosling and Rachel Weisz as Susie's parents, Stanley Tucci as the Salmons' neighbor George Harvey, and Michael Imperioli as police detective Len Fenerman.

on Sep 21 2007 06:55 PM this movie is going to be amazing. Peter Jackson is excellent in character work. This sounds similar to Heavenly Creatures, which was a wonderful film. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 21 2007 07:08 PM I haven't read the book, but it sounds intriguing. It's a nice change of pace to see Peter Jackson go back to directing a "smaller" film. Heavenly Creatures was one of his best films. Any new rumors on whether or not PJ might be back into the equation as far as possibly directing THE HOBBIT?? (Reply to this) |

on Sep 22 2007 02:34 PM Wow People! Read this book, it's amazing and PJ is going to tone down for a quiet epic that actually has a Fincher-like twist at the end. Read it and find out how cool this twist is very much up PJ's alley. If you can read the back cover of the Halo 3, box you can read this. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Sep 22 2007 03:31 PM Oh man, don't take a shot at video gamers as if they're illiterate. I read as well as play video games and watch movies- they are all just different mediums of entertainment. But David Fincher-like you say? I'm definately going to look for this book now! on Sep 22 2007 04:34 PM Nice cast! Looks like I'm going to have to re-read this book before I see the movie though. I haven't read it since it first came out, and I don't remember everything. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 23 2007 04:07 PM Halo is dead dudes. Peter Jackson isn't gonna make the movie. Some things are best left for video games no? (Reply to this) |

on Sep 23 2007 05:58 PM I don't remember any twist to speak of at the end. I just remember thinking the first half of the book was FANTASTIC, and that the second half was really, really, really, really boring. I'm curious to see what he can pull out of it. Maybe he can make it better than the book. More to the point, if the movie IS good, he will have made it better than the book. I'm really curious about this one. (Reply to this) |

Yeah, 'Halo' is an amazing game and has certain potential for a film adaptation. However, you're right, with whats happened- 'Halo' as a film is pretty much dead in the water. (Reply to this) |
