4. The Secret Life of Bees -- 56%

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith produced this adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's novel, about a teenage girl (Dakota Fanning) who escapes to South Carolina with her nanny (Jennifer Hudson) to live with three independent-minded sisters (Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo, and Alicia Keys) in the 1960s. While it's remarkable enough that a major studio drama was made featuring strong black female characters, and by an African-American female director (Gina Prince-Blythewood), critics called The Secret Life of Bees corny and saccharine. Loaded with weighty extras, the film comes to DVD with filmmaker commentaries, an extended director's cut, deleted scenes and making-of featurettes.

I'm disappointed that F13 Parts 2 and 3 offer so little. But I'll probably be getting all three F13 movies. When they release the others on similar rereleases I might go up to Part 4 but that'll be it. 5 and on is where I lost interest.

This will be fun since I'm taking a horror film class this semester and we get to analyze a wide range of scary movies so I can watch these movies with all that crap in mind.

Damn computer, I left a lenghty comment and now it's gone. Anyway, don't want to see much except "Madagascar 2", "Zack & Miri", and I'd pick up "Being There", it's a great movie.

Is "Private Valentine" porn? It screams porn. So does "Friday the 13th", but that's torture porn, that's different.

Yeah I will definitely pick up Being There and I think I will blind buy Zack and Mirri because Smith is awesome and I was mad I couldn't catch it in theaters.

Well many this week. Zack and Miri was f***in hilarious, the funniest movie of last year hands down. Nick and Norah was charming, and I really enjoyed Madagascar. I disagree with critics and I enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees, it was fun under the dramatic scenes. Might check out the three F13 pics, I've only seen the first one, but I'm a sucker for 3-D so I may check it out for the third one.

ledawg, since when is Friday the 13th torture porn? It's a slasher flick, sure, but the terms aren't necessarily synonymous.

I may get Zack and Miri; missed it in theatres. Oliver & Company has some nostalgic value for me; it was one of the first movies I saw in theatres. But, I still can't see myself ever acquiring it.

Actually, the first few Friday the 13ths at least are thankfully sparse in their kill scenes. I am a huge, huge wuss who can't take horror but those early movies have really brief kills. Gross, yes, but brief.

Dude, Zack and Miri was great but it can't touch Tropic Thunder which was easily the best comedy of 2008 and one of the top 5 best. In my opinion. Then again, i thought The Dark Knight was the best movie last year (I saw The Wrestler, Frost/Nixon, and Milk so I did see some more artsy movies) but it wasn't good enough to earn an Oscar nom.

I guess their not the same thing. I don't care to be honest, but I should get my facts straight. I (for the most part) don't like slasher flicks (Halloween and Psycho aside) or "Saw" esque films. Because they're mindless, and not scary.

Anyway, I remember seeing "Oliver & Company" on video back in the 90's. I also remember that I saw "Batman & Robin" a week earlier. Aaahh, memories... bad ones. I don't know if I'd like "Oliver & Comany" now, my taste has changed sice I was 6. Maybe I should leave it at memories.

I'm not one for buying cartoons in general. I think Secret of Nihm and Lord of the Rings are the only non-anime ones I own. Probably check out Zack and Miri. I might have to rent Private Valentine just to see how bad it is. It might make a good drinking game movie.

Friday the 13th(1980) is a pretty solid, enjoyable film. Part II is actually quite good, and features the best kills out of the early part of the series. Part III is decent at best, but is somewhat entertaining to a degree. I actually would like to see it in 3D, as that sounds like a fun, silly gimmick, and I'm sure it worked pretty well back in the 1980s. None of the three are better than Part IV, anyways.

I'm getting the Friday the 13ths, to replace my old ones, Part 3 for sure, then 1 and 2 if I have enough money. I'm definately gonna get Zack and Miri, it was my favorite movie of the year after The Dark Knight. Definately passing on Nick & Norah, that movie was a hunk of ****. The only other movies that deserve checking out are Oliver & Company, which I may buy eventually, and Being There, which looks like a good rent. Madagascar 2 was decent, definately not anything special.

Zack and Miri had some great laugh out loud moments and I can't say that I'm a big Kevin Smith fan compared to others. I think it's definitely worth watching!

And Elizabeth Banks looks incredible.

Yes, Zack and Miri was great - I personally liked it better than Clerks 2. I hate to compromise my coolness, but I also thought that Nick and Nora's I.P. was good too - casually charming.
