How To Train Your Dragon tops Toy Story 3

The most prestigious animation film awards, the Annies, have announced their winners for the 2010 movie year. Winners were announced at the 38th Annual Annie Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 5, 20111 at UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles, with How To Train Your Dragon taking home the award for Best Feature. Agreed, this year for animation was amazing. Though I wasn't big on Despicable Me (good jokes, not a fantastic story), most of the animation this year was fantastic.

And that's BEFORE anyone's seen the Illusionist!

i dunno i feel that 2009 was better overall with the likes of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Up, Coraline, The Princess and the Frog, The Secret of Kells, and Ponyo (although that was actually a 2008 film it was released in the USA in 2009).

This year had two great ones with Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon but was not as across the board great in my opinion.

Dang. How To Train Your Dragon really took the spots away. This makes me happy seeing as it's my favorite movie of the year and all time now. I am surprised to see Toy Story not in most of the categories. Would have thought every caption would be HTTYD vs. TS3 plus other nominees.

Here's to all the animated movies, though. :)

That's because Dreamworks buys all it's nominations. (Kung Fu Panda beating Wall-e in every category.) It's funny because this year they didn't even need to buy out the awards to get nominated.

I don't get why though. It was until last year where Dreamworks starting winning all of the awards. I mean, every other year Disney/Pixar basically won most of the awards. 1 year and Disney is pissing all over of themselves.

Yes, buying the categories I think is stupid, but Disney getting INCREDIBLY pissed off about this for not sweeping 1 year? Eh.

i agree, Dreamworks really stepped up it's game last year. How to train your Dragon is best animated movie, Shrek Forever After is in the top five box office last year, and Megamind had an amazing ensemble cast. Congrats to Dreamworks!

Only thing that'll be interesting out of this will be which film will grab that 3rd slot at the Oscars since TS3 and Dragon are virtual locks.

That is a definite possibility, but whose to say it won't be nominated for both? Personally, I think TS3 will beat HTTYD in animation but still get nominated for best picture, kind of like Up.

The Oscar nominations were announced weeks ago. TS3, HTTYD, and The Illusionist were all nominated in the Animation category. TS3 was also nominated for Best Picture.
