Box Office Guru Preview: Kids to Flood Multiplexes for Senior Year
Summary
Rarely does Hollywood release two films on the same day that are as opposite in every way as this Friday's pair of new openers. Disney promotes a hit TV franchise to the big screen with the G-rated fun of High School Musical 3: Senior Year which will play to young kids and their parents. But playing in most of those same multiplexes will be the gruesome horror sequel Saw V which pushes the boundaries of its R rating. Back to Article

blattman writes: on Oct 23 2008 05:22 PM I still want to make a double feature of HSM3 and Saw 5, but it will be on my day off, not this weekend. It will be much quieter by tues. (Reply to this) |

vashfanatic writes: on Oct 23 2008 06:01 PM In reply to this comment (#2091657) Bear in mind this is still early in the review-cycle. BHC was "fresh" on the Thursday before it's release, HSM3 may nosedive too, making the Review Revue team look stupid (when they're not!) as they give outdated reports. (I know the idea is to give pl advice before the weekend, but seriously, can't it wait 12 hrs?) (Reply to this) |

I hope SAW tanks and I hope PAYNE has a big drop and end up being a bomb for FOX. HSM 3: 40 Mil SAW: 25 Mil Pride and Glory: 11 Million BHC: 6.5 Max Payne: 6 Mil (Reply to this) |

ledawg1138 writes: on Oct 23 2008 08:21 PM I haven't trusted RT since "Attack of the Clones" has 66 percent, and in my opinion the underated "Dead Man's Chest" and "Transformers" only having 54 percent and 57 percent, respectively. And "Rocky II" has 62 percent, to much, and High School Musical 3 is just another wierd rating. But whatever! I WANT QUANTOM OF SOLACE, NOW!! (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Oct 23 2008 08:48 PM Weekends like this are why DVDS were invented. . . Plus, instead of drinking tons of beer before the film and having to miss 10 minutes due to a frantic urine visitation, I can pause and drink beer through out. . . You know what my wish is my friends? I wish that every screen to show HSM is switched with SAW 5, and they lock the doors and each audience has to watch the other's film. then I will laugh. CoUcH ToMaToE DoUgIe writes: on Oct 24 2008 02:41 AM Y'know its quite frustrating how Disney conducts its self on the movie scene these days. Their animation department is dead and its scary to imagine wehere they would be without Pixar. Still, when you have god awful crap like the shows on disney channel making so much bank, why care creating anything worthwhile anymore? Its really sad I grew up anticipating disney movies as a kid and now I can't help but hate them for commercializing and marketing the crappiest enterntainment. What's worse, they have the rights to the Muppets and damn if they ruin that too. Still, on a side note- I must utter some good will towards Disney for widening the release of Nightmare Before Christmas this Halloween. I know the DVD is perfect;y fine but its something specia to see that masterpiece in the theaters. Also, I appreciate it more because I missed its original run in theaters because i was a bit creeped out. Man, I can't imagine how I could ever be afraid of something so beautiful.... well not Ogie Boogie, he's still gross ;) (Reply to this) |
