RT on DVD: High School Musical 3 or Midnight Meat Train?
by Jen Yamato | February 16, 2009
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

It's a good week for mediocre films (Body of Lies, Changeling, Quarantine and Flash of Genius, which all walk a fine line between Fresh and Rotten) and an even better one if you're a Wildcat at heart -- or a fan of Zac Efron (High School Musical 3: Senior Year)! Horror fans have an enticing two-fer to consider (Quarantine and the better-reviewed Midnight Meat Train, based on the Clive Barker short story), while left-wingers get the faith-skewing Borat (Bill Maher's Religulous). Curious thrill-seekers can also check out Dakota Fanning's controversial Sundance pic (Hounddog) and nab a Certified Fresh Czech import (I Served the King of England). See what else is new this week on DVD. Back to Article

I don't care how Fresh HSM3 is, I'm still convinced that it's the movie they play in the waiting room for Hell. I'll probably rent Body Of Lies and Quarantine this week. But the real reason I clicked on this is because The Midnight Frickin' Meat Train is on DVD!!!

Contrary to popular belief, this is NOT a porno, but probably the best Clive Barker movie since Hellraiser. I saw it on fearNET a few months ago and loved it! Seriously, this has cult classic written all over it. Vinnie Jones hasn't been this awesome since Snatch. And no, I'm not a studio plant. Just a really psyched fan anxiously awaiting the Director's Cut.

I'm getting Choke, Changeling, and How to Lose Friends in the mail from netflix tomorrow. Body of Lies was a big disappointment and is a decent movie, rent it. Midnight Meat Train is worth renting, its entertaining.

Great Job, Jen. This must have taken a lot of time.

I agree with Arthur G. about HSM3. Yikes. May there be no more of them!

I'm getting Quarantine, Body of Lies, and Changeling from Netflix.

For some reason, Netflix isn't offering Hounddog. Maybe it's one of those Blockbuster "exclusives."

I'm not getting "How to lose Friends. . ." because Kirsten Dunst is in it. After Spiderman, I just can't cope with her . . .

How is Choke not on this list? It's not one of my favorites of the year, nor do I think it's terrible. But it IS being released this week, so why does it not even get a mention?

What?! No mention of Dead Like Me either! It's only the followup to one of Showtime's past best shows. (Too bad it only lasted for 2 seasons, it was awesome!)

There are only 10 places.

and Choke was BORING. I'm a fan of Palahniuk, and was horribly dissapointed when I saw Choke on opening day.

You know really piss me off about HSM 3? It is that the star of that stupid franchise, Vanessa Hudgens, is 16 and she just bought a 3-million dollars house. A 3 friggin million dollars house at friggin 16!!!

I will never make that money in my whole life, apart from a considerable lucky strike...grrrrrrr. If only she deserved it.

Tomwaits- Hey, I like kirsten Dunst. But red-haired not that ugly blonde she always sports outside of Spidey world

Collex - Hudgens is 20 (born in 1988)
And i'm sure you could find something else you don't like about the film than how the star spends their money.

"While left-wingers get the political Borat (Bill Maher's "Religulous")"

I'm on the left, and I have no interest in "Religulous". There are two big reason's.

1. Bill Maher is annoying. He has a simple view. He's right, everyone else is wrong. I often agree with him on politics, but he's got no respect for anyone, making him not much different from guys like Bill O'Reilly.

2. Same old, same old. We've seen many a movie that are about how Christians are right wing, homophobic, uptight, well to do Ned Flanders type. And that is mostly true. But, not every Christian is like that. I'm left wing, my church accepts gays, and I'd like to think of myself as a guy who every dude wants to be, and every chick wants to be with. (Yeah, I'm not that great.) I'm waiting for a documentry about both sides of Christianity. And of course, Maher is only going to go to the most radical people of their religion.

Want to see a good documentry about crazy Christians, see "Jesus Camp".

Anyway, "HSM3" looks like torture, to put it mildly, I'd rent "Changeling", "Body of Lies", and "How to Lose Friends". Even though, Jolie looks ghostly white.

I can't begin to express my dissapointment that "Midnight Meat Train" isn't porn. Oh well!

Nice work Jen.

HSM3 can burn in hell! I HATE THAT GARBAGE! Erm, anyways... As much as I laugh at the name (sounds like a porno >_>) I'll take that over HSM3. Hell I'd take a 120 hour American Idle marathon over HSM3... (i hate it that much),

While I don't like Bill Maher, after your post, Ledawg, I actually wanted to see the movie more, which I didn't want to see it at all previously. I think it's because I don't like you more and more with each post of yours I read.

Its entertaining, its funny. Its pretty much one sided like Bill Maher generally is, but its funny. Its like a replica of his show- it wont really change your thoughts, its one sided, but its hilarious.

While I did enjoy Religulous, it did not have enough bite. It just seemed to mild and really didn't uncover anything. I did enjoy the HSM movies mostly for the soundtracks and dancing. There I said it, kill me if you must. I have heard good things about midnight meat train, but will probably wait for it back on cable.

I actually have no intention of seeing Religulous. Some people's religious beliefs are pure and as ingrained in them as the color of their skin, is it right for someone to take that away, like the way people used to take dignity away from those of different ethnicities? Don't we teach to be tolerant of people's cultures? Isn't religious belief sometimes very much a part of someone's culture, shouldn't we be tolerant of that? Just because you have some bad apples in a religious sect (just like you do in the government, police force, military, race, etc.) doesn't mean the religion as a whole is bad, and it should not be attacked as a whole.

That 'Midnight Meat Train' has been available for free on my Comcast On Demand Service for a couple months. I thought it was softcore porn... Now I might have to check it out.

I love Clint, and I didn't get to see Changeling in theaters, so I'll probably blind buy it. I'll rest Body of Lies sometimes, and more likely Midnight Meat Train too. I don't know why Choke wasn't on here, haha, apparently Dakota Fanning getting raped is more important.

Midnight Meat Train was good up until the ending. I won't ruin it for anyone, but it comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.

O.K., everybody!
Looks like I'm going to be doing the "good-old thing" of asking everybody why they think VERY poor movies like "Midnight Meat Train" and "Choke" are better to rent or buy this week than good movies, like, say, I don't know...HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3, maybe?????????

First of all, let me state that I AM a HSM fan!! And I am VERY proud to be one of the MILLIONS!! So, sue me! BUT, I don't like the HSM franchise because of me being a fan of it! I like it because it is a good, clean, and VERY fun time at the movies!! And, no, I am NOT a 12-year old girl, so I'm not talking about "nice, childish, sweet, cuddly, cute" fun, either!! "Great, awesome, fantastic, cool, and wicked" fun is more like it!!

Second, let me tell all of you guys what you probably already know...
The High School Musical phenomenon.
1) The first movie was seen by 200 MILLION viewers worldwide!!
2) HSM 1 was the best-selling album of 2006...the entire year!!
3) HSM 2 was the best-selling album of 2007, selling more than a half-million units its first week of release...the entire year, again!!
4) HSM 3 soundtrack debuted at #1 on the charts and is likely to be one of if not THE best soundtrack of last year, as well!!
5) HSM 2 was the most-watched cable show on TV EVER (more than 18 MILLION people watched its premiere, to be exact)!!!!! Helloooooooo???
6) HSM 3 (the movie) made almost 100 Million all together!

I know that these amazing and mind-blowing facts may not mean much to some of you haters out there...BUT, like it or not, the HSM franchise is most definitely a worldwide phenomenon and has captured the hearts and souls (and rhythm :) ) of people all around the world!! So, hate it as much as you want, but that won't change these statistics or the millions and millions of people who love these movies! Many of whom are ADULTS!! So, Deal with it!! Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying that as a "well-done musical" it is up on the same status as Dreamgirls, Once, or something as mind-blowing as Chicago! No! But, I AM saying that for a great, fun, "get up and dance" musical it was awesome! I won't repeat it, but just see what RT's consensus was on it and some of the positive reviews, cause they are awesome!!
Moving on...
"Body of Lies" was definitely a disapointment as a spy-thriller, but the performances by Russell Crowe and Leo were awesome (as always!) so I will be buying it on Blu-Ray sometime next week!

Choke was a ridiculous movie with no point and no story and no likable characters and a poor ending and...well, you get the point!! So, I will not be renting it ever again and anyone who hasn't seen it...don't go see it!!

Midnight Meat Train was an absolutely stupid horror (this is a horror fan talking) and I thought it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too gory! Horror is made to SCARE you not make you laugh at how much buckets of blood they dumped at you!! And I have seen some very gory movies! Don't believe me?? How about all Saw movies, Hostel Part 2, and 28 Weeks later!

In conclusion, there is really only 1 good movie coming out this week and that is...HSM 3: Senior Year!!

P.S. I know that you (the person who is reading this) are going to send me a hate message! So, please send it now so I can get on with watching more great movies! Bring it on HSM haters!!!
P.S.S. I am a 19 year-old GUY!!

So your main defense of it being good is it's popular? I thought the whole "world is flat" thing sort've proved that as terrible logic.
