Really doesn't have much up its sleeve other than parlor tricks and gimmicks.
I think Aja achieved the creepiness found in many Japanese and Korean horror films. Considering that "Mirrors" is a remake of the Korean film, "Into The Mirror", I'd say he did a pretty good job. In spite of a few silly moments - which I found quite fun, actually - I found it better then expected. And with most horror films these days, you might as well approach them with lowered expectations anyway. Because when you come across one that really IS good, you'll still appreciate it.
