Weekly Ketchup: Natalie Portman may appear in Thor
Summary
This week's Ketchup includes continuing casting for Marvel's Thor, a MacGyver movie, Tom Cruise talking about Mission: Impossible IV, and new roles for Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, Chow Yun-Fat, Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones. There was a good bit of news this about Thor, starting with the rumor that Natalie Portman is the top choice for the female. What isn't said specifically is who that female lead, but really, there's only two major female characters in the Thor story: the Asgardian sword maiden Sif (who is hard to imagine being played by the 5' 3" Portman) and the mortal nurse, Jane Foster. SuckitBaby writes: on Mar 20 2009 06:06 PM Is it just me or does Natalie Portman just keep getting hotter the older she gets!? We share the same birthday (same year too) so I won't sound too pervish when I say I've had a thing for her since I saw The Professional as a young teen but she joins the ranks of Christina Applegate and Julia-Louis Dreyfuss as actresses who look much better with age. And say what you want about Tom Cruise but the M:I movies are fun and 3 was the best yet! I'd pay for a fourth! (Reply to this) |

jackoimina writes: on Mar 21 2009 08:34 AM Are there any news about Tomb raider third movie? I heard that the new TR is going to be produced by the producer of Terminator Salvation and it will folow the story from the game. It will come from Warner Bros company but no cast information or something. So are there any news? (Reply to this) |

About Macgyver: Never saw the series (in 1992, I was 4) but if they cast anyone but Richard Dean Anderson, I'm not interested. (Reply to this) |

whitey_mcwhite writes: on Mar 21 2009 11:05 AM In reply to this comment (#2386800) I'm assuming you're downing Portman because of her work on Star Wars, but I have to say that with Star Wars, when Lucas is directing you can't blame the actors for sh.it. He commands total control of everything, if you do one thing that he didn't see in his head he'll make you go back and do it over the way he wants it done. If you want proof Portman can act just look at Garden State and Closer. (Reply to this) |

greg_dean_schmitz writes: on Mar 21 2009 12:48 PM Yep, I just want to say that I think Natalie Portman could be great as Jane Foster. She's the human connection for Dr. Donald Blake as he's dealing with this strange, mythical thing that's happening to him... changing into freakin' THOR when he taps his cane. If you want to see Portman being great in a comic book movie... V for Vendetta ! I agree that Star Wars tarnished Natalie's reputation, and that it was totally not her fault. Post original trilogy, Lucas is awful at working with actors. Poor Natalie went from being one of the young actresses a lot of people really loved to... not so much. It's kind of sad that she is still having to prove herself, post Star Wars. Maybe Important Artifacts will also be a great role for her. (Reply to this) |

Bane Of Anubis writes: on Mar 22 2009 02:06 PM Good actors can act despite poor direction - EM & LN did much better jobs working with GL's shoddy direction than NP and HC... Sure, the direction and lines may suck, but a good actor can at least make it seem somewhat believable, which she didn't. (Reply to this) |

RexLaboro writes: on Mar 23 2009 04:28 AM In reply to this comment (#2387192) Well, it's an instant reaction to Natalie Portman. I haven't seen any close to solid casting names and the first one they're pushing is Portman. For one, I still have a bad taste in my mouth about her EP3 acting and how she can't act in front of a green screen. Um, that's why it's called... ACTING! Number two, it seems as though the rush for the never ending and tired element of Love Interest is being sought first and foremost. She was good in V but I think that's because the script and film itself set the tone for her range of acting. Thor seems like the type of film that will showcase her dead-eyed emotionless acting. I don't think she can do fantasy world films. And then she's rumored to be cast as someone she doesn't even fit the criteria for. That makes me think the film isn't being taken as serious as it should be. Thor deserves more than the (Reply to this) |
