Award-winning corporate media producer Fred Ashman makes his independent film debut with PROUD AMERICAN, a loving look at the American Dream. This series of vignettes uses true stories to highlight the pride and determination of Americans. Unabashedly patriotic without pandering to any political party, this film illustrates how determination and stick-to-itiveness can overcome all types of adversity, including religious bias, racism, poverty, and physical disability. It also pays tribute to the first responders of 9/11, and to veterans and current members of the armed forces. Scenic shots fill the space between the stories, with images ranging from the waves of Hawaii, to the wheat fields of the Heartland, to the majestic Grand Canyon, to the swamps of the south. Military memorials, small towns, and big cities are also highlighted. Appearances from familiar television faces such as Ken Howard, James B. Sikking, Marc McClure, and Grant Goodeve pepper the vignettes, and real American small-business owners also share their success stories. Perhaps most interesting is the moment in the credits that thanks Ross Perot for his strength and inspiration, further confirmation that this film--which is sponsored by Coca Cola, Walmart, MasterCard, and American Airlines--embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship. PROUD AMERICAN showcases the best aspect of America: the freedom every American has to pursue happiness, and to make his or her dream come true. [More]
