What a drag that, one year into Obama's presidency, American films remain so careful about depicting black actors.

What a drag that, one year into Obama's presidency, pseudo-intellectual liberals still contextualize everything in terms of race.

How is this film related in any way to Obama? Please! The movie has a theme that should cross all racial lines. It is a great movie and all should feel good after watching it. What a joke!

What a shame your review is a steaming pile of trash. It is no doubt the worst movie review I havw had the displeasure of reading. Good job at acting like a disgruntled political tool in a movie review.

I agree, they DEFINITELY should have had some black guy walking around in sagging pants, snorting crack and smoking weed, and saying the N word every other sentence.

Double edge on that race thing huh. Too much and you're a racist. Not enough and you're too "careful". Given the threat of Jesse or Al doing the only thing they know how to do, profit from hate and blame, I would understand why "careful" would be preferred. I love comments by Nick C.

Let me see if I get this @ Michelle H. The movie has NOTHING to do with Obama but EVERYTHING to do with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Ha ha ha.

@ Nick C...SEE, NOW you're getting the point Buddy. Good Job! Either Black people are giant dumb personality-less victims a la " BlindSide, The Green Mile and Precious" being saved by whites or they are ( you guessed it!) Crack smoking hoods. Two whole choices.

Crackheads or Victims, Crackhead or Victim...hmm which one would you choose?

What an over-intellectual hack... It shames me to think that these so-called critics actually get these jobs. Sometimes I wonder if they even love "the movies" they're so desperately (and trying-way-too-hard) to lift up and explain from a scholarly standpoint. Most of them fail on the scholarly side providing incorrect examples and references to past films (that don't even fit the conversation) and on the emotional end of the spectrum they're about as hearty as a late night third rate talk radio show. Honestly a monkey could do what these "critics" do. I'm not being quite so harsh in saying this: I think that most professional critics are full of crap. Most quote: "ordinary" movie goers can get by well on their own. We don't need them to tell us that "The Third Man", "La Strada" and "The Double Life of Veronique" are good artistic films. Just go to the library. They don't need us to tell us when our emotions are being maniupulated. Movies are supposed to do that. And they sure as hell don't need to explain to us the fallacy in a Hollywood blockbuster's attempt to get a rise out of it's audience with cheap thrills. We live for those cheap thrills and (if not) overblown sentimentality. Such things are harder to create than you would expect. That to me is the mark of a true film maker. To make sturdy material, well. Any college bum with a psychology and art degree can film **** at weird angles, make it black and white w/naturalistic acting and call it art. It's crap is what it is. Try being a movie star, that's hard. Try making something as small as "Twilight" happen and blow it up into a huge thing. That takes real talent. A hack like me could make "Precious". We're not saving the world from itself. We're not providing inspiration. People inspire themselves, they don't need movies to do that. They want to be entertained. Don't like it. I can think of one big shot legendary film maker who more or less feels this way about the industry (from what I've heard--and it's convincing). His initials rhyme with SS. (NOTE: These opinions are in no way a reflection of Rotten Tomatoes, its employees or the site, this is merely the opinion of one humble self-taught film critic---ugh, I don't like that term---movie lover). That's better.

Wow.. your statment in your review pertaining to the movie not being so much about Mike Oher but more about the folks who "help" rings very true. I am so sick of these types of movies that actually exploit real situations. The movie should have been about Oher, but instead, as you suggested, it was more about the white folks who help him.

THANK YOU kosmicgirl. I'm glad there are other intelligent people out there who realized how bad of a movie this was. Just another movie about white saviors. Very good story, horrible movie.

Barrack Obama's mother was white! After her divorce, she moved in with her parents and she received food stamps. Yes, she was going to college to earn a degree, and not a crackhead, but Obama wasn't well off growing up. He came from less and ended up being the President of the USA! Sounds pretty similar to Michael Oher's story. And Michael Oher ends up on the Dean's List at University of Mississippi. Where is there a misrepresentation here? I think any one from any race could see this movie and walk away feeling they could conquer their demons and rise above to become more. Sounds to me Mr. Cole that you have some serious soul searching to do.
