Let's say you're a big fan of the original comic book, and you think the movie does it justice. You know what? You inhabit a world I am so very not interested in.
Ebert is such a reactionary liberal douche. Oh noes, Grandpa's sensibilities have been hurt! Go back to the 1960s where you belong. The irony of course is that the Chicago Sun-Times hired Ebert when it found their current batch of critics were too old and crusty and out of touch with modern cinema (the burgeoning era of the late 60s). Time for the Sun-Times to ditch Ebert.

Honestly, your making the biggest mistake of you career Mr Ebert by your review. In your own words you have often mentioned that you review films based on what they set out to achieve. But with this you resort to say how you feel, not if the movie succeeded in those terms. Now I'm NOT interested in how you feel. I'm interested in if the movie achieved the goals it set out to. If it does this or not, is completely irrelevant (by your own words) to your personal views on the subject matter being filmed.Honestly if you say this is how you review films then do so if not don't review films. Nothing tarnishes a career worse than double standards.

This is veryyyyy typical Ebert -- if he actually follows his stated principles and reviews the movie as a movie, he's often very insightful, but every once in a while, he Has A Personal Issue with something in the film. When _that_ happens, he just tosses out any pretense of actually judging the film, and blathers on endlessly about His Issue. You learn to recognize these Ebert non-reviews and ignore them after a while... he's still a pretty good movie critic, but one really needs to adjust for his eccentricities.

I was never interested in "Kick ASS" after viewing the movie trailer- it looked idiotic and I didn't find the title attractive. Then a friend of mine from work said he went to go see it with his dad and they liked it so much they went back and saw it again the next day. This surprised me so I gave it a green flag and saw it. I can honestly say It is one of my favorite movies. I figured I'd check here to see what people and critics had to say and am not surprised at all about the debate over the violence. It was a violent movie- guess that's why it's rated R. Having a child do most of the killing in the movie was something I didn't expect but It didn't really bother me. Why? Because I'm an adult and I know it's just a movie. PERIOD. It's really nothing I haven't seen already and the only problem anyone would have with the film is if they take young kids to see it. I would think ANY of Tarantino's films fall under this category (especially From Dusk Til' Dawn). As far as consequences of violence is concerned, the film rang loud and clear. The only HUGE difference in this film and a Tarantino film is we don't have to listen to long witty unrealistic conversations between every hip cast member. As far as the violence is concerned, seen it before but the girl was older and had blond hair- not purple. (and don't tell me you didn't chuckle when she took her eye...)

Roger I insist, it's time to say goodbye. You missed the main theme of the film and it is not the father and daughter struggle against evil, but the desire for revenge. Retire before you lose what you've accomplished so far. I admire you, and I'm you're bigest fan, but Roger, time is collecting its debts.

Thank you, Kick-Ass was an amazing movie!!!!!!!!!!!! I like Roger but I disagree with him about Kick-Ass. Kick-Ass was a great movie, it's like the best film of 2010. Oh and by the way, look at his reviews for Tomb Raider 1-2 and Hitman. He thinks the movies are good, but he hates video games.LOL

What makes me angry about this review is that he doesn't mention any of the other content. He just rated this 1 star because of one mere character. I also don't understand why he gave the Losers 3.5 while all that is mindless violence also.

Roger is a complete fool. This movie had more heart in my own opinion than many movies now. He's a joke, he isn't reviewing whether a movies is good or bad, he's just being an ass for asses sake. Trying to be controversial by bringing up kids shooting each other... I'm sure if I was a kid the first thing I'd do after seeing this is shoot someone.

Well, I said awhile back that I'd give this one a shot on DVD, and I'm glad I did. Truth is, I'm guessing Ebert's not a big fan of a 'Monty Python' sort of humour, because that's basically what this movie was, from start to finish. It was like Monty Python Meets Happy Tree Friends, and it was funny as hell from start to finish. Fortunately, they didn't take themselves too seriously (which would have been absolutely disasterous for the tone they set right from the first scene), and it was entertaining, as long as you could put the violence into the right context . . . this was basically an adult, live-action cartoon, and it worked right from start to finish. Sorry Roger, but you're letting an opportunity to enjoy some guilty, 'let-your-taste/morals-take-a-day-off' fun slip right on by.
Aug 7 - 12:52 AM
Roger Ebert is just too out of touch now. He pretty much he lost his mind when he gave Return of the Swamp Thing a positive review. Sorry, Roger, but your reviews are now almost unreadable. I can only respect was he once was, and for all that he's been through.
Aug 13 - 03:31 PM
You know what? It's not often that I'd even consider saying this about Ebert, but he's a fucking hypocritical idiot. I love how every other critic who writes a shit review on this site gets rebuked, but Ebert is oh so holy, and only gets "Well, I kinda liked it"'s. Well, you know what? I'm gonna show some balls. You review sucks, and your opinion sucks. Your entire review is absolute hypocritical bullshit, and this is proof that Ebert is losing his touch.

completely utterly the words i would say about this trash of a film, if you ask me judge dredd was a better attempt at cheesy comic book film making than this was, and thats saying something. i hated kick ass, it kicked my ass bored.

I had a lot of fun with Kick-Ass. I found it a perfect blend of brilliant, over of the top action, and hilarious content. At points I agree that the violence is a little much, but at the same time, it delivers such a heavy punch I can't resist it.I still enjoyed this review Mr. Ebert.
Dec 29 - 03:58 AM
though i strongly disagree with him on this review, at least he doesnt apologize and backs down because people say he is wrong
Jul 2 - 06:59 PM
Leave your moral hangups at the door and judge the movie for what it is. I would've thought that you wouldn't be that faint hearted, Roger. Seeing that you loved Antichrist which is far more confronting than anything in kick ass. I respect you immensely roger but after seeing this rating and your 4/4 for salt, my respect has diminished somewhat. Hopefully you will see the error of your ways one day and realize kick ass isn't 1 out of f#*%en 4!

Hater's gonna hate
Feb 6 - 07:44 PM
Fuck you and everyone else that says that it's so douchey.
May 30 - 06:47 PM
That is a very arrogant thing to say...
Like with your review on Wolf Creek, you are pretty much saying that who ever doesn't share the same opinion with you, you have no interest in?
Grow the fuck up..
Mar 14 - 04:11 PM
One of the few movies I drastically disagree with Roger, and it pains me :(
For me it is a 3.5/4, not because it is a good movie, but because it is a well crafted comic movie, entertaining as hell. It might strict against all morales of child violence, but I choose to overlook that fact.
May 21 - 06:21 AM
i love you roger, but you couldnt of got it anymore wrong
