Nominate the Worst Screen Combo for the 2013 Razzie Awards

The Razzies will announce their full dishonorable nominees list for the 2013 movie year on January 15. And, like last year, Rotten Tomatoes readers are invited to vote on a category: Worst Screen Combo. Check out the ballot and vote for up to five choices, but keep in mind that balloting will close at 11:59pm PST on Saturday, January 11th!

Hope you noticed those groanworthy puns up there! Check back here on January 15 for the full nominees list, or visit the anti-awards establishment at their homepage.

Seriously, what do the Razzies have against Sylvester Stallone? I get that he's been in some awful films over the years, but it seems like unless his films get critical acclaim he'll always wind up with a Razzie nomination. I guess always nominating Stallone is their idea of a running gag, but it's painfully unfunny.

Dec 26 - 11:21 AM

Stallone is nowhere near as bad as the other films I wanted mentioned. And where is InAPPropriate Comedy?

It's been getting mentioned a lot in the Razzies forum. But since it raised like $1,000 nobody saw it. Still, Lindsay Lohan is most likely to be nominated for that and SCARY MOVIE 5 as Worst Supp. Actress.

I must say INAPPROPRIATE Comedy is better then Movie 43. INAPPPROPRIATE had more potential to be good then 43 which did have potential thanks to the cast but failed miserably. But seriously, The Amazing Racist skits were redundant.

You just answered yourself. He's one of those people who's in either very good movies or very bad movies. And when he's in very bad movies, he deserves Razzie attention. In this case, he worked in 4 bad movies in 1 year (I don't know why BULLET TO THE HEAD wasn't included).

Dec 26 - 03:56 PM

King S.

King Simba

Bad, maybe, but worst of the year? That's my issue. Even when his films are just meh or average they still nominate him for razzies. How exactly is Homefront different from all the other run-on-the-mill Jason Statham films over the years? Why out of all the brainless action films in 2010 was it Expendables that got nominated for worst director over far more terrible films? In a franchise filled with campy over the top performances, why was it only Stallone who got a Razzie nomination for worst supporting actor in Spy Kids 3?

Now some of the razzies he's gotten over the years were deserved (Staying Alive, Stop or my mom will shoot), bur I guarantee that for a lot of films if anyone else had been directing or starred in them instead of him they wouldn't have gotten a Razzie. Again, always nominating Stallone is either their idea of a running gag or they really have something against him.

John Wilson explained that, when someone becomes a "Razzie repeat offender" (that's how he calls them), they'll always be in consideration (unless they're in a good movie, of course). He said that it's no different than when the Oscars nominate certain people over and over.

A lot of people were suprised at the EXPENDABLES' nomination, but most of the backlash went against ECLIPSE (a higher TomatoMeter rating) being nominated for that AND Worst Picture.

Stallone deserved to win for SPY KIDS 3. Just because someone tries to be campy doesn't mean they'll always succeed (that's why MACHETE KILLS is listed). And his attempt at a latin accent was embarrasing.

The idea of a SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER sequel was bad from the start. Maybe STAYING ALIVE wouldn't have been THAT bad. But STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT is the perfect example of a bunch of executives coming up with the stupidest premises. Nobody could've made it good.

Dec 27 - 06:49 AM

Sebastian O.

Sebastian Ochoa

I don't think he acted badly in 'Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!'. He's not a bad actor in general. I agree with ya King Simba. Unless he's in a fantastic film, he gets criticised. At least he's not Shelley Duval, who got nominated (and won, I believe) for the horror classic 'The Shining'.

Dec 28 - 03:11 AM

Vits

Vicente Torres

I think he was Oscar-worthy not only in the 1st ROCKY but the 6th one as well. I think he can be a good actor but he chooses to play it safe.

Shelley Duval was nominated for THE SHINING but didn't win. I think she should've won. She ruined the movie!

Dec 28 - 12:46 PM

Sebastian O.

Sebastian Ochoa

For being one of the greatest horror films to date, I don't believe for a second that The Shining was ruined in any way, shape or form. It's like saying Tobey Maguire (in spite of him being a terrible actor) ruined Spider-Man 1 & 2. They were both great films, despite Maguire's acting abilities.

Escape Plan wasn't all that bad actually. Grudge Match looks a lot of fun. Homefront was very disappointing, but up against all the crap released this year, doesn't stand a chance of being named the Worst of the Year.

Will & Jaden Smith don't spend enough time together, so they shouldn't be nominated for this.

I also would've liked:
-Alden Ehrenrich & Alice Englert in BEAUTIFUL CREATURES.
-Bruce Willis & Jai Courtney in DIE HARD 5.
-Ashley Tisdale & Simon Rex in SCARY MOVIE 5.
-Owen Wilson & Rose Byrne in THE INTERNSHIP.
-Adam Devine & Sarah Wright in 21 & OVER.
-Jeremy Renner & Gemma Arterton in HANSEL & GRETEL (incest undertones).
-Marlon Wayans & either Essence Atkins, the ghost or the ghost inside Atkins IN A HAUNTED HOUSE.

And also, the entire cast of:
-SCARY MOVIE 5.
-A HAUNTED HOUSE.
-THE SMURFS 2.
-PERCY JACKSON 2.
-BEAUTIFUL CREATURES.
-ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH.

Good call on Die Hard 5. Bruce was phoning it in, Jai Courtney had zero charisma, and together they had zero chemistry. While other movies may be worse than this one, this one was part of a franchise that I really like, so I had expectations for it. And it was godawful. So for that - and the crap performances - it takes the cake over everything else.

Dec 27 - 06:30 AM

Andrew Korkmas

Andrew Korkmas

Uhhh, there no incest tones in Hansel and Gretel. I've seen it multiple times and yeah they never try anything like that. Also, you do realize that movie was intentionally silly right? Unlike say, After Earth which tried to be serious, and that's what makes so atrocious.

Dec 27 - 09:26 AM

Vits

Vicente Torres

Of course they didn't try that. That's the point: It had to do with the actors' chemistry and the way they were being directed. I wanted them to be nominated BECAUSE it was unintentional.

I gave it a 50% (a lot higher than its 15%) because I felt it succeeded at times at being tongue-in-cheek. But not always. Just because a movie tries to be silly doesn't mean it's automatically "so-bad-it's-good".

Dec 27 - 11:56 AM

Francesco Fortuna

Francesco Fortuna

I disagree with Beauitful creatures. In fact, I'd say the romance and chemistry between Alden Ehrenrich & Alice Englert was the best thing about the movie. I just couldn't stand the whole warlock/witch thing. Otherwise, I agree with everything else.

Nah, Beautiful Creatures was a huge disappointment. They turned the great source material into Twilight with witches.
