Against this dramatic backdrop, two young people named Nandu (Anil Kapoor) and Rajeshwari (Manisha Koirala) fall in love in the small town of Kasauni. Their families have opposing political beliefs, however, and as events escalate, the two are faced with difficult decisions as they struggle to stay together. The outstanding star-studded cast also features Anupam Kher and the terrific Jackie Shroff as dashing freedom-fighter Shubhankar. This moving historical epic is expertly written, acted, directed, and scored, and cleaned up at both the Filmfare and Screen Awards on its release in 1994. [More]
