Critic Review - Village Voice

The film is a sleepy dud, a polemic that, like D'Souza himself, is at once both outrageous and deeply boring.

Well, I did see this movie and it was very poorly constructed and much to Mr. D'Souza's dismay it will not get any consideration for awards other than by extremist groups. Let me beat everyone out there that feels that only Communist homosexuals run Hollywood and that is why is will get no notice. Actually, I will give D'Souza this- he is smart enough to make this "documentary" at a time when there are so many ultra-right wingers in this country who will line up to pay good money to see it. Should make him a bunch of money and a few brief moments of fame to grab a movie deal or two from someone like Donald Trump or Clint Eastwood.

Gee, never heard of that before. Guess what all the criticism will be and "take the wind out of the sails" of the opposition. Whew! That really hurt but I'm better for the display of true courage.
It's a good thing no left-wing wife beating homos aren't opportunistic money grubbers.

Thank you for correctly identifying yourself and friends. Go play now.

You're a moron. The premise and potential together are deeply intriguing. This is a must see for every voter before November's election.

Well, since you called someone a moron , that certainly makes this film a "must see"! Please, this film is a pastiche of intellectual journalism.

Interesting that the majority of Americans have made this "dud of a polemic" and "boring" documentary a top ten box office hit! Get your shallow bias out of the conversation. If you would critique this film, critique it's substance and content with objective fact, not senseless and subjective opinion. This kind of a critique is an embarrassment to your profession. You might have readers listen and respect you if you put forth substantial and evidential criticism.

I welcome your intellectual response. I'm really interested in your dispute of D'Souza's conclusions and claims. Until you are willing to come to this table, stay out of the picture. Let's have a real discussion of this film and get to the facts as informed citizens. Weak-minded partisan babble will only take our nation backwards.

Hardly the "majority of Americans". That would mean some 160 million viewers had gone to see it and I do not believe that is the case. The choir went to see it, the right wing hoiploi which are desperate for anything resembling intellectual rebuttal against any Democrat. They are looking for their own Michael Moore, and sadly, D'Souza isn't Michael Moore, I believe because he is being intellectually dishonest.

The Left's primary characteristic is intellectual dishonesty. The Left's secondary characteristic is an inability to perceive their own intellectual dishonesty, which simply perpetuates the first.

Michael Moore is the poster boy for intellectual dishonesty.

to all those trying to do a political debate. obama's message at the convention was "it could be worse". i don't care who you are that was a horrible slogan. both conventions had little specifics and bill clinton's speech was riddled with falsified numbers like the jobs created number. 4.5million? c'mon bill. Likewise, Romney needed more specifics as well and the presidential debates will be critical to see, obama will struggle because Romney is a far more formidable opponent than mccain. However, whoever has the best economic policy will get my vote.

I vote for redistributive politics since the wealthiest 4 percent of Americans took home 93 percent of ALL income last year. It's time. Really, it's time. Return progressive taxation.

Why don't you show specifically what was "drivel" from this reviewer? Can you rebut the point made that D'Souza accuses an abandoned boy of being overly influenced by his estranged father ? The psychoanalyst D'Souza uses claims two things at once, that Obama is hostile to his father for the abandonemtn and simultaneously embraces his father's, what, anti-colonialism? If this is even true, are we to defend colonialism and the dictators who enforce it? Can you respond specifically?

Can the commentors please respond to specific criticisms of the film, not wallow in Moore is bad D'Souza good, my facts versus your facts drivel? Do we really care about anti-colonialism in the age of Multi-National Corporate Fuedalism? Can Obama be both hostile to his father who abandoned him and simultaneously sympathetic to his father's progressive views about colonial oppression? Obama deserves better criticism than D'Souza provides, such as why is he expanding the Bush wars, why is he enshrining the worst Bush policies into permanent law (the NDAA for example) why is he persecuting whistleblowers when he said he would defend them? etc. etc. Sadly none of this reasoned criticisms seem to be relevant to D'Souza who masks the usual anti-Obama conspiracy fears in simply a new twist.

It is a shame that people like Mr. Scherstuhl have the power they do.
The film was in no context a 'dud'.
Liberals will do anything to keep the populace in the dark.
This movie is the most depressing, disheartening movie I have ever seen; because,it reveals what Obama's true intentions are for America.

1200 - 1400 words Al? Just an estimate of how long YOU can complain about how someone bores YOU. Who could possibly read this tome? And you're a TOP critic for the Village Idiot? No wonder . . . pompous asses are teeming in that area of the city looking for self justifying hogwash to sip while "liking" and "hating" all the right things.
Please stay with that publication so I'll know what NOT to read.
