we knew Spidey 3 would have a big dropoff in its second week, all blockbusters do. as for 28 Weeks Later, i saw it last night and thought it was great. aside from the one or two leaps of logic, 28WL is on par with the original.

i thought 28 weeks later was a little overrated, but I did not expect it to debut with mediocre numbers.

i think the drop in spidey numbers is due to bad reviews people are giving by word of mouth.............i know, i know that there is usually a huge drop-off in the 2nd weekend after the debut but there was so much hype about this spidey movie and it had record breaking, first weekend, results that i was expecting around 75 to 80 mil in its 2nd weekend........

i originally predicted spidey to make over 400 mil domestically but now im going to have to go back on that prediction b/c with shrek and pirates comin out the next two weekends spidey is goin to be dying out there.......

likely because of the reputation of the first two Spidey films. X3 didn't compare to the first two but did huge numbers opening weekend, the same goes here. plus, there's wall-to-wall-to-wall-to-ceiling-to-toilet Spidey 3 advertisement and merch. oh, and Spidey 3 is PG-13 and Hot Fuzz and 28 Weeks Later are rated R, so more people can get in to see Spidey 3 than the other two.

Hey RT you have the Waitress listed as rated "R" when it's PG-13, might want to fix that since this is a movie site and those things should be correct.

I'm glad Georgia Rule bombed. Was a terrible movie.

One of the worst movies of the year by far.

28 Weeks Later was not the best movie of all time but it was pretty damn good. Just as good, if not a little better than the original.

Delta Farce was actually funny at times but overall a very ridiculous movie. I feel bad, I LOVE Larry the Cable Guy, but other than a few laughs, this was an insignificant performance for me.

Although.. Those few moments I laughed, I DID laugh very hard.

So that's what made it 'not too bad' for me.

And I love what happened to "The Ex": that thing looks so bad I would break up with my girlfriend if she insisted on seeing it (I don't date dumb women with no taste.) I'm also glad that the latest redundant Drew Barrymore "romantic comedy" (judging from reviews it is neither romantic nor funny) got killed by Spider-Man. I don't think I've ever enjoyed even one of her movies. I can't think of one I'd like to own on DVD (E.T.'s at the top of that list BTW.)

All these counter-programming "chick flicks" should be denounced as denigrating to women. Women can't like superhero movies? Where is that written in stone? Why do women have to settle for the crap that's manufactured just for the sake of counter-programming? Spidey's overall success might have finally proved all the cynical misogynist suits in Hollywood wrong on this subject though.

Yeah, if nothing else, it's fantastic watching Spider-Man 3 destroy terrible movies. When a movie is worth seeing (28WL), it rakes in a decent amount compared to the rest of its competition. But the newest garbage like The Ex and Georgia Rule is understandably ignored. Awesome.

And I don't get why people compare the second Friday to the opening Friday. Obviously there's going to be a gigantic drop in numbers; movies this big never make the same amount of money as they did the first time around.

I think we're seeing more crap movies now because studios don't give a $hit, with tickets being so high now, if a movie just barely breaks even. It seems people are turning against Lindsay Lohan because of all her off-screen dramatics (though I know Georgia Rule wasn't exactly playing to her pre-teen fans) and I can't believe a movie like The Ex would waste the talents of Bateman an,d Braff. Must have been a horrible script! Will be interesting to see if SM3 can match the other 2 spidey movies with all the potential blockbusters coming out. Can't wait for Waitress in wide release also!

"Always happy to see Jane fall flat on her ass!"

As opposed to what? Lindsay Lohan ALREADY on her ass...At least Jane Fonda has/had a career with some notable achievements. So far Lohan doesn't have shite and at the rate she's going she never will.

Well, it's always nice to see people trying to up their cool factor by taking a pointless and unnecessary dump on a classic, but I would hardly consider E.T. a "Drew Berrymore" film

The official numbers are in and my prediction was right. Spidey 3 did 58 mil. Its total stands at 240 mil. I predict a 32 mil third weekend and perhaps an overall tally of 350-365 mil. I hope pirates does not make as much even though i will see pirates opening weekend( weird contradiction). But i believe shrek 3 will make only a 120 mil weekend.

To beat Spider-man 1, Spider-man 3 needs to make over 821 million dollars. It will come close, but the budget for the first Spider-man was only 139 million dollars compared to the 258 million dollars for Spider-man 3. That's a 119 million dollar difference. So the first Spider-man will come out on top in the end.

we got some serious accountants, CPAs up in here.

We may not find the next film maker or next great film critic in these forums but we sure can find a boat load of accountants.

Note to hollywood and the big studios, come get your accounting down right here!

28 WEEKS LATER WAS GREAT!!!
I absolutley loved it! Its about time to see a sequel that isn't made just to make more money! They actually had a good story and the directing was excellent! I thought it was great how they made the infection die off but still be around in one way or another. I can see why Danny Boyle would be proud to put his name of that project!!!

I saw 28 Weeks Later which was pretty good, but I must say mildly disapointing compared to the original. I also saw Hot Fuzz and it is the most over rated movie of the year so far, I can't belive that it's getting so much praise, I hated it, it was unfunny and overlong. I'm happy Georgia Rule flopped as I don't like Fonda at all and Lohan is just getting worse and worse. But yeah hopefully Waitress expands to my theater as I really do want to see it.

I didn't count DVD sales on those figures, but your right, Spider-man 3 could possibly end up topping the first film. Only time will tell.
