WonderCon: Zack Snyder Talks "Watchmen"

Now that Zack Snyder is done with "300," and looks to have done a fine job with it, he's ready to move on to his next project, "Watchmen." Originally a twelve-issue graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, "Watchman" will be an R-rated super hero movie, if Snyder has his way. Here's what he had to say about his next movie during my interview with him for "300."

"We have the script and we're trying to get the schedule [and budget] together. I think the studio understands this movie is rated R," said Snyder. As for the cast, Snyder confirmed he has spoken at length with Tom Cruise about a part in the movie, but said Cruise's involvement is no longer likely. Snyder said his discussions with Cruise were mostly "theoretical," but Snyder pictured him playing the part of Ozymandias. Snyder said he plans to start shooting "Watchmen" at the end of the summer.

Wow. Cruise actually makes sense to me as Ozymandias.

I'm a interested to see what this "script" looks like. Such a dense and multilayered work, I fear for what a hollywood adaptation will bring us.

I hope it still takes place during the cold war.

Tom Cruise should play Dollar Bill... or Hooded Justice...not a 6'5" Blonde. Make him a Minuteman not a Watchman.

I say Burt Young as the Newspaper vendor

I could see greg kinnear, cast against type kind of thing, if he got in shape, as an inspired choice for OZ. Owen Wilson would look the part if he didnt have a messed up nose, but he's a clown... thomas jane? dont know if he has the acting chops...
who knows?

The Watchmen
I am writing as a bit of an outsider but as I approach age 70, I am not on the "video game pro circuit". However, I did buy "The Watcmen"and am sorting through it as we speak. As you might guess, I am not a huge fan of the "horror" genre...........
That being said, I did see "Dawn of the Dead" & have seen the "300" three times so far.....I really enjoyed both movies immensely as I did the Director's rendition of "Respect" during the 2002 Super Bowl for Budweiser with the Clydesdales which some people describe as the best commercial ever made..
My point is that Zack Snyder seems to be hitting on all cylinders & if "The Watchmen" is half as good as the foregoing, we're in for another treat........
Thanks for listening.........Ed Snyder, Pittsfield, Mass......
