A joyless amalgamation of expository dialogue and special effects that aren't especially special.
And to think that they added even more millions of dollars to bolster the CGI.
Jun 15 - 01:38 PM
well hell. Expository at-least is a good thing.
Jun 15 - 02:48 PM
No it's not.

It's pretty obvious that this critic is not saying it in a positive connotation.

I really hope everyone can get over this whole 3D/CGI craze and watch stuff that is actually good.
...Regardless, I don't think this will make it's money back.
Jun 15 - 06:46 PM
3D definitely needs to go. But CGI is fantastic when used in an absolutely necessary way, so it can stay.

The trailers for this movie looked like a video game... so much so that I actually caught myself thinking "Wow, great graphics! I need to play this" They could have gone for practical effects with CGI in post, making the whole thing in front of a green screen was a recipe for disaster.
Jun 15 - 07:16 PM
I watched the trailer on youtube a month or two ago and thought "wow, ryan reynolds does look like the guy...wait, that's the movie not a game"
Jun 15 - 08:45 PM
Well most of the stuff has to be CGI: aliens, constructs, Oa etc. I mean they could've made parallax not a giant blob but any creature design would've been CGI anyways just probably not as noticeable. Most of the stuff could not be done with practical effects.
Jun 15 - 10:34 PM
Yes, but I was more referring to the backgrounds, especially Oa - it looked fake and unappealing.
Jun 16 - 12:03 AM
Yea I agree but I guess seeing the trailer I was willing to accept the look of Oa because it matched with his suit; which had a 'glowy' quality to it.
Jun 16 - 12:14 AM
I thought the exact same thing, Watcher. Never in a million years would I consider this eye-candy.
Jun 16 - 04:59 PM
Indeed. There are some movies that really put CGI to good use. Those are the movies that use it in a way that compliments the story, something that'll help it move along (District 9, The Matrix, Jurassic Park). Movies that simply rely on CGI (Transformers, apparently this)are usually pretty bad.
Jun 15 - 07:19 PM
while i agree on the overuse of cg as a bad thing argument, how else were they supposed to make transformers if not through cg?
Jun 15 - 07:58 PM
Suicide King, he didn't say don't use CGI at all. Just use it when necessary. The problem with the Transformers movies, and others like them, is that they put CGI atop the list of priorities. It's like making a cake that's 90 frosting.

God please, please, let this 3D craze die out. Maybe use it once in awhile, for movies like 'To Fly' but use it rarely. Waste.
Jun 15 - 08:29 PM
So this guy has a ring that gives him special powers?
Jun 15 - 11:33 PM
Yes, and he fished it out of a box of Lucky Charms. :)
Jun 15 - 11:55 PM
I could have sworn it got it from a Cracker Jax box.

His mask looks soooo fake, they could have at least made that real :P
