When Nige finds himself in a spot of bother after a series of unfortunate incidents, he is forced to ask Deano for help. The problem is Deano is not really the kind of guy you should turn to in a crisis.

Limp comedy.
This is no ordinary buddy movie. It is, actually, an anti buddy movie, and while there are some sequences which could have been funnier, the story maintains a kind of bizarre logic which somehow speaks New Zealand.
This is a weak film but an endearing one, a would-be black comedy undermined by the amiability of all concerned.
Having earlier scored a breakout hit with his next-to-no-budget Scarfies (1999), a film that explored the lives of similarly low-brow characters but with far greater depth and narrative strength, more can rightfully be expected of the director.
With a backdrop of natural wonders and a suitably ironic deployment of familiar Kiwi pop hits, Two Little Boys strikes a fair balance between the outlandish and the recognisable.
The combination is a little like mixing chocolate, beetroot and anchovies. Maybe they're not meant to be put together. Despite all this, the film works.... Almost.
The major flaw in this decidedly black New Zealand comedy with a tasty sense of the ridiculous is that the central odd-couple relationship at the film's centre is never properly established. Even the deliciously twisted aspects ... tend to fall flat
