Academy Introduces New Ways to Award Trophy
by RT Staff | February 08, 2005
Discuss Article
For this year's Academy Awards, the producers of the show will introduce new ways to present the trophies to the winners, writes Julie Keller for E! Online. For high-profile categories, the nominees will appear on stage as their names are called. For the low-profile categories, the nominees will be seated together and the presenter will join them in the audience before announcing the winner. In another variation, the nominees for several categories will be gathered on stage and the trophies will be handed out to the winners. "The concept this year is to minimize the line between people on stage and in the audience," explains show producer Gil Cates. The award show will air on ABC Feb. 27th.

I just hope, some pissed off nominee who doesnt win runs up to the winner and punches him! now that they'll be so close to each other, nothing can prevent anything like this to happen!
then, they'll decide it was a bad idea, and go back to the classic way.

This will never happen.
Ten feet is an ideal distance for Cheadle to smile graciously. Ten feet is a tolerable distance for Foxx or Eastwood to capitulate graciously. For Depp or DiCaprio, ten feet is way too close to be a stinking loser.

A beauty pageant contest
Ok, so this must be the dumbest idea in showbusiness since the greenlight to "bloodrayne" by uwe boll... What the hell are they thinking ? It will look extremely stupid (it's suddenly like a beauty pageant contest, forcing the others to come congratulate the winner in the most hypocritical of ways). Do they think the'll get bigger audiences for the telecast by exploiting our morbosity in seeing the stars in such unconfortable situation ?! Mmm... wait a minute... maybe it'll work !! ^_^ Although I'm foreseeing that a lot of nominees won't attend the ceremony under these conditions...

As if it's not bad enough to lose with the camera on you. Now, you get to do it on stage! Yuck. This idea might be as bad as having Glenn Close narrate the Oscars a few years ago.

And the losers are...
What kinda grade school crapola is this?? They're gonna make four losers stand on stage and applaud like the good sports they are? What if Jamie Foxx loses - will he actually faint on stage?

:: programs VCR ::

Somebody fire Cates before another 1988 debacle shows up (remember the Snow White dance number? I DO.).

You know, this is probably the least interesting piece of news I've heard this week.
