Movie Info

Written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, The Adjuster is an examination of the sexual quirks of a married couple. Starring such Egoyan regulars as Elias Koteas, Arsinée Khanjian, Maury Chaykin, and Don McKellar, the film focuses on Noah Render (Koteas), an insurance adjuster who enjoys sleeping with his clients, and his wife, Hera (Khanjian), a film censor who finds excitement in making copies of the most explicit parts of the movies she's assigned to review. Offbeat, intriguing and thought-provoking tragicomedy.

Tough to love, but easy to enjoy.

Typical in only one way: It is a typically complex, intelligent and challenging Atom Egoyan film.

Unfortunately, The Adjuster doesn't hold up for its entire length and much of it is played in such a flat, unemotional tone that the result is a real snooze.

Audience Reviews for The Adjuster

Great combination of sound, plot and characters. While it seems to be meant as an unsettling film, I found it to be quite inviting. Yes it's bizarre, but it has a very realistic quality about it (even though the characters were incredibly phony) that is true to life. It's a great piece of film making and a unique style.

The Adjuster is a very, very odd movie from Canada(there seems to be a lot of strange movies coming from Canada. Yes, this means you, Cronenberg!) by Atom Egoyan(the great - Exotica, Sweet Hereafter; the mediocre - Ararat, Felicia's Journey) about a married couple. He is a claims adjuster who is too involved in the lives of his clients but not enough in his domestic life.(But we never see him in an office of any sort.) She is a censor who is nowhere near as involved in her work. And then there's an even stranger, very wealthy couple, whose lives seem to consist of playing games...
