John Lee Hancock ... has done the unforgivable — he has made a boring movie.
Forgettable Alamo
Maverick filmmaker John Sayles was once attached to The Alamo as director and writer. Whatever contribution he made to this Ron Howard produced film has been exorcised. His name appears nowhere. Lucky for him. Pulled from release last December and reworked, John Lee Hancock, now listed as director and co-writer, has done the unforgivable — he has made a boring movie. Larger-than-life icons like Davy Crockett (Billy Bob Thornton), Jim Bowie (Jason Patric) and Sam Houston (Dennis Quaid) are lifeless in a movie that creates no tension, no adventure and fails to give us a sense of history.
