A literary-minded romantic comedy that barely passes English and flunks chemistry.

A movie they'll want to hurry past during the AFI tribute.

This is a warmed-over, low-end recycling of director Rob Reiner's own When Harry Met Sally.

Alex & Emma has trouble overcoming the badness of the novel at the center of its story. It doesn't help that the movie declares it a literary success.

It is always a delight to see Hudson's saucer-eyed smile and impeccable timing, but it would be just as entertaining to watch a 90-minute documentary of Hudson shopping for groceries.

Uninspired -- neither romantic nor comic.

Where, oh where, is the Rob Reiner of the 1980s? This romantic comedy is utter garbage.

Alex & Emma is so flat -- so lifeless, so desultory in concept and execution -- that it practically retreats to one corner of the screen and takes a nap.

The worst sort of bad movie, in that it's actually two bad movies in one.

Frankly, [Wilson's] so dull it's hard to believe one woman would have the hots for him, much less five.

. . . a death rattle for movies that emulate Woody Allen's formula but slip in and out of theatres without the twinge of emotional resonance that the master seemed to effortlessly evoke.

Top to bottom, this is made from the Romantic Comedy Template. The problem is, it's JUST the template, with most of the blanks left unfilled.

Meant to be a funny, feel-good love story. Instead, it feels wan and uninspired, despite its likable cast.
