If [Troy] was a Pitt-fall, this is a stumbling Stone.

Alexander the Not-So-Great
In the category of damning with faint praise, who could have imagined that Oliver Stone’s Alexander would be nearly as bad as Troy, the disastrous swords ’n’ sandals epic starring Brad Pitt unleashed on unsuspecting movie fans earlier this year. If that was a Pitt-fall, this is a stumbling Stone. The director’s visual skills in the battle scenes cannot overcome the monumentally awful one-note performance by a bleached blonde Colin Farrell in the title role. Val Kilmer is effective as Alexander’s father, but the Angelina Jolie-Farrell scenes as mother-son are bizarre. I can’t wait for the Mad TV spoof.
