Terrible review, as always, Common Sense Media. Dated? How? The special effects still look more convincing than most of the stuff seen in theaters today. What about the movie is exactly dated?
Actually, almost *nothing* in the movie looks dated. Only one shot looks anachronistic now, which is the interior of the "Mother" room with its flashing lights. Everything else looks better than most movies released this year. You can't even say that the hairstyles or costumes date the movie; everything has a neutral, timeless look to it.
And the quality of the effects work, sets and lighting are stellar. Only two moments look a little patchy: the chestburster running from the table (but it's so quick you barely notice) and the creature swinging on the harpoon line outside the Narcissus at the end. (It's not the creature that looks weak, it's the shuttle.)
Everything else looks brilliant, and oozes quality.

Dated? If this movie is dated, than that means we humans, are all dated!
