Reviews for Allah Made Me Funny
While the concept is stimulating, there’s actually too little political comedy here, as most yucks center on traditional men-vs.-women, my-funny-family material of middling inspiration.
Allah may have made these men funny, but he didn't bestow much in the way of filmmaking skills.
The title of this well-intentioned movie ought to have been, Allah Made Me "Occasionally" Funny: Live in Concert.
A performance documentary with a tiny budget and a big spirit that follows three comics as they travel the country looking for laughs and understanding.
The jokes are tepid and generic, better suited to late-night Comedy Central than the big screen.
Allah Made Me Funny: Live in Concert, from comedy material written and performed by Mohammed 'Mo' Amer, Bryant 'Preacher' Moss and Azhar Usman, strives to be both timely and funny as it confronts the problems of American Muslims in America after 9/11.
The whole thing is like an HBO comedy special -- Allah made these guys pretty funny -- and it's hard to see why it's getting theatrical release.
In the end, while the humor is at times bit uneven, Allah Made Me Funny achieves its goal of breaking down stereotypes with a tongue-in-cheek grace.
A live concert featuring three Muslim comedians building bridges of understanding through humor.
Kaifa taqoulu kalimat 'this is funny stuff!' bel arabia? (How do you say 'this is funny stuff' in Arabic?)
Between the sets, director Andrea Kalin generates some pleasant material by following the comics around in their private lives.
It's hit-and-miss. But Allah Made Me Funny: Live in Concert is a film that doesn't let go from the very first moment.
A trio of Muslim Rodney Dangerfields complaining about not getting any respect on account of their religion.
