by RT Staff | October 31, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

This week, Ridley Scott's American Gangster starring Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington hits theaters. With its story of a drug kingpin and the cop who's trying to take him down, we at Rotten Tomatoes thought it would be a good time to delve into some flicks about organized crime you may have missed. There are so many great French gangster flicks. Check out Rififi, which rules, and then try The Red Circle, which is also awesome.

American Gangster is based on Frank Lucas (Denzel) but Barnes is in the movie (Cuba Gooding Jr.). I need to see Rififi...

To the authors of this article: you need to double-check your research. Two of the lines you attribute to "Public Enemy" ("What will YOU do about it?" and "I can't hear you, can you speak-a up?") come from the 1932 version of "Scarface." (For the record, there are no machine guns in "Public Enemy," or "Little Caesar" either. The first major gangster film to feature machine guns was "Scarface.")
