The Hangover Part III
Lack of nominations for The Master is disturbing, but not surprising!
Dec 13 - 08:04 AM
This would be a tough year of films to compete against in some ways. Argo and Lincoln alone kind of stole the show. Silver Linings Playbook was also amazing.
Dec 13 - 08:10 AM
This comment has been removed.
That is like, the worst comment ever.
Dec 13 - 10:30 AM
So I guess Peter Travers, Peter Howell, Richard Roeper, Todd McCarthy, Glen Kenny, and A.O Scott have some of the worst tastes ever? I thought was a great movie and your opinion isn't correct so don't try and spread it all over the place.
Dec 13 - 10:33 AM
I think Aaron speaks for the General public on movies like the Master, not that the General public is right or anything. It's a great character study, if you don't care about character though (again, General Public) than this movie would be torturous.
Dec 13 - 11:50 AM
Bro, it got 85% That's all I got to say.
Dec 14 - 06:39 AM
If you end sentences with the word "ever", you have one of the most precarious grips on reality IN EXISTENCE!
Dec 13 - 11:43 AM
McLain Antrim Chadsey
Perhaps even the most precarious grip on reality ever.
Dec 14 - 07:42 PM
not sure if troll or just stupid...
Dec 13 - 01:38 PM
Dec 14 - 04:32 AM
If you think that, then you know very little about movies
Dec 14 - 03:45 AM
"The Master" still has a chance to get more nominations at the Oscars!
Dec 13 - 12:40 PM
If it doesn't get the BP nod, it should still get attention for its fantastic performances by Phoenix and Hoffman.
Dec 13 - 01:39 PM
Its not as disturbing as last year when Drive and the last Harry Potter movie didn't get nominated for best picture at the golden globes and the academy awards AND the fact that Rooney Mara lost to the most overrated actress in the world Meryl fuckin Streep. And where are the nominations for Javier Bardem or Michael Fassbender?
Dec 15 - 10:12 AM
Yeah, Drive should have been nominated for best picture. And I wanted Rooney Mara to win also. I think she deserved it the most. Meryl Streep isn't a bad actress, but she is certainly overrated.
Dec 17 - 02:16 PM
BOOOO!! NOT ONE NOM IN A MAJOR CATEGORY FOR ANY OF THE SCI FI FILMS THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR!!! YOUR AWARDS SUCK!
A lot of the Sci-Fi movies will see some love at the Oscars, like in the Art Direction and Visual FX(Prometheus), Original Screenplay (Looper), Costume (The Hobbit), Makeup (Men in Black 3), Sound/Sound FX Editing/Editing (TDKR/Hunger Games). They would've otherwise been up in the Best Drama category and the competition is too fierce this year. BTW, Cloud Atlas and Hunger Games are nominated for Original Score/Original Song, respectively.
Dec 13 - 09:43 AM
Sorry bro, but the oscars don't really like science fiction. Look at 2001: Space Odyssey. How many oscars did that win? But hey, you can still rejoice that this year had some solid science fiction movies: Prometheus, Looper, Cloud Atlas, etc.
Dec 13 - 01:41 PM
I would not call Prometheus a solid anything other than a solid waste of time, money and effort. It was two hours exploring the one question no one ever asked about the alien series. and yes i stole that line from somewhere and i cant remember where. Fits to a t.
Dec 15 - 11:38 AM
Of course not. Why is anyone still shocked by this. Everyone's atrocious and constant neglect of Fringe is the epitome of this dumbshit mindset that sci fi isn't cool enough, or not serious enough to be awarded anything (yet Glee, New Girl etc is always up there, hurrah).
Dec 14 - 01:23 AM
Fringe is one of the most compelling shows you can see. Plus it's done excellently. HU Ha for John Noble
Dec 14 - 05:19 AM
Don't understand why Wes Anderson has yet to be nominated for Best Director. Also very disappointed to see Paranorman ignored for Best Animated Film, the stop motion was so sharp in that.
Dec 13 - 08:24 AM
that damn near invalidated it to me Paranorman was SO good. Easily the best animated and best written animated movie this year
Dec 13 - 09:12 AM
you know, I agree with Paranorman being really good, but the one that I can't believe was ignored is Madagascar 3, if anyone saw that movie is probably thinking WTH!?!?! Too bad for both movies... But Brave is in yeii NOT! horrible movie, boring and nothing 'brave' about it.
Dec 13 - 09:29 AM
Iā??m still stunned that The Secret World of Arrietty is ignored everywhere.. for me, it was the best Animated Feature of the year. In Ghibli we trust.
Dec 13 - 10:32 AM
The Globes hate Asians. Fact.
Dec 13 - 11:44 AM
That can't possibly be fact, where are all the Cloud Atlas Nominations then!
Dec 13 - 12:23 PM
Arietty was officially released several years ago and thus probably isn't eligible.
Dec 13 - 03:11 PM
Still, there were plenty of Korean, Chinese and Japanese films this year worthy of inclusion in the foreign catagory. The Globes rarely include films from this area of the world.
Dec 13 - 03:55 PM
But they love Indians, spots not feathers, odd.
Dec 13 - 05:29 PM
Especially in favor of Hotel Transylvania. (Which was cute and not terrible, but nowhere near as inventive as Paranorman.)
Dec 13 - 09:54 AM
seriously how does that happen.
Dec 15 - 11:43 AM
Any time I watch a Wes Anderson movie I keep half-expecting him to walk into the middle of a scene waving his arms screaming "AM I BEING SICKENINGLY-SWEETLY ECLECTIC ENOUGH YET?! WELL AM I!?" It's the cinema equivalent of getting smacked on the head with an indie baseball bat.
MK started out decently enough when it was just a simple little story about two weird outcast kids on a Calvin-and-Hobbes-esque journey but then it just went completely over-the-top with schmaltzy reality-defying segments that just felt like they were in there for the sake of being quirky.
Dec 13 - 03:18 PM
WTF is an indie baseball bat? The film has a whimsical humor. I don't know why you think it's trying to fool you somehow.
Dec 13 - 03:59 PM
Yeah, I mean why the hell is Hotel Transylvania nominated? Then again, I pretty much never acknowledge the Golden Globes since 2009. It's illegitimate in their practices.
Dec 13 - 06:07 PM
Musical or Drama? Shouldn't it be Musical or Comedy?
Dec 13 - 09:08 AM
Interesting observation: a lot of this year's nominees were in some way affiliated with award nominated films (not specifically the GG) in 2010. Back then it was Ben Affleck for The Town, John Hawkes and Jennifer Lawrence for Winters Bone, Amy Adams in The Fighter and we saw Leonardo DiCaprio and Marion Cotillard in Inception. Of course this is not uncommon, but 2010 and 2012 were both really good years for films.
Dec 13 - 09:18 AM
Award this man the cement bicycle.
Dec 13 - 06:02 PM
No American Horror Story? Best show on television but if it's ineligible I won't complain
Dec 13 - 09:40 AM
It's hardly the best show on TV. Great first season, decent second season. About 7 dramas I'd put ahead of it: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, Justified, Walking Dead, maybe a few more but I can't think right now.
Dec 13 - 12:51 PM
LOL Walking DEad? easily the most overrated, but I'll say It's better than breaking bad and justified was at their second season, I'd say it's right along with Game Of Thrones the only reason you say it's not as good is because it doesn't take itself very seriously, but as far as Acting, Direction, Writing it's on par with all those shows. The thing that makes it better to me is the pacing. Everything happens so fast there's never a dull moment and it's filled to the brim with character development
Dec 13 - 05:18 PM
"Doesn't take itself very seriously"? Yeah, it's stupid and silly. It doesn't take the audience very seriously either.
Dec 13 - 05:31 PM
I agree, I will say the Walking Dead pilot is my favorite Pilot of any TV series yet after that when characters are given lines it quickly goes down hill. CARL'S NOT IN THE HOUSE! CARL'S NOT IN THE HOUSE! I HAVE TO EXPRESS EXACTLY HOW I AM FEELING ALLLL THE TIME! Oh and don't get me started on T-Dawg. T-Dawg reminds of Terrence Howard's story in Crash. Your Black T-Dawg, you only get to say DAMN! or Ah Hell Naw! I gotta stop before this turns into an angry Nerd Blog.
Dec 14 - 08:02 AM
brave and horrible madagascar 3 and great but since the last year in which two cars was nominated this award turned into a joke
Dec 13 - 09:41 AM
Wow! Les Mis did surprisingly poorly!
Dec 13 - 09:46 AM
I think a lot of critics can't get over Russel Crowes singing.
Dec 13 - 11:47 AM
I'm just happy Tom Hooper didn't get a Best Director nod.
Dec 13 - 12:32 PM
Dec 13 - 09:57 AM
Wait, so Nicole Kidman peeing on Zac Efron is worth a Golden Globe AND a SAG award? Paperboy vanished from theatres with terrible reviews. It sounds like this is a "Isn't she brave?" type of nomination.
It sounds like publicist palm grease (with maybe a few bills involved).
Dec 13 - 11:46 AM
She always get the "isn't She Brave" vote. Remember "Birth" The epic tale about how child molesting can be romantic as long as it is filmed in Brazil and the kid character plays Indifference to absolutely every thing.
Still does not compare to her winning Best Actress over Julianne Moore back in 2002. That was a joke!
Dec 13 - 12:20 PM
Nicole Kidman is a joke. She can't act and she isn't even that pretty.
Dec 17 - 02:18 PM
So glad Django Unchained is nominated!
Dec 13 - 10:43 AM
I know right? Makes me wanna see it even more!
Dec 13 - 01:44 PM
Why is it though that they immediately nominate Django Unchained, and a couple other movies when they haven't even been released in theaters yet?
Dec 13 - 11:11 PM
Because the movie should be awarded based on its quality not based on its commercial success or public attention, you can see that clearly looking at movies like Skyfall and The Hunger Games.
Dec 14 - 03:25 AM
I think he wonders how they can be eligible if no one's seen them, to which I reply "pre screening! Showing the film to a limited audience to get it eligible for awards!"
Dec 16 - 12:01 AM
Inglorious Basterds got nominated too, but didn't win anything as a movie. I predict the same thing happening with Django. Award shows want to like Tarrantino. They just don't want to admit it.
Dec 14 - 06:09 AM
"Award shows want to like Tarantino. They just don't want to admit it." Couldn't have put it any better myself.
Dec 14 - 02:37 PM
Is there a way they can turn the Comedy/Musical categories into just Comedy? Because they throw in Dramatics Musicals, and they're too different. I understand it when they created them: there weren't enough excellent comedies to choose from. But this year, there's plenty of them, and most have higher ratings than MARIGOLD and YEMEN.
Dec 13 - 10:47 AM
One of the first times I generally agree with the awards. Questioning Hotel Transylvania, but in general, I dig it.
Dec 13 - 11:11 AM
Ah, yes, my least favorite awards show: when you give Best Picture AND Director to DANCES WITH SMURFS over THE HURT LOCKER, you lose all respect for them. It also doesn't help that they gave the offensively jingoistic piece of poison known as ACT OF VALOR a nomination (although Adele will kick its ass I'm sure). That being said, there not a lot of surprises here, and here are my predictions and/or preferences: ZERO DARK THIRTY (Drama, Director); MOONRISE KINGDOM (Comedy); John Hawkes (Drama), Rachel Weisz (Drama), Jack Black (Comedy), Dame Judi Dench (Comedy); CATCH ME IF YOU CAN couple Leonardo DiCaprio (Supporting Actor) & Amy Adams (Supporting Actress); Quentin Tarantino (Screenplay); Michael Danna (Score), Adele (Original Song); FRANKENWEENIE (Animation), AMOUR (Foreign). Don't watch a lot of television, though I'll still be rooting for Amy Poehler.
Dec 13 - 11:27 AM
Agree that the Golden Globes are usually a bunch of bullshit. Dances with smurfs beat Hurt Locker? Wow. I didn't even like Hurt Locker... but it was certainly better than the piece of overrated trash by Cameron. Act of Valor was a disgrace. Pretty solid predictions. I absolutely adored Moonrise Kingdom. Hope it gets at least one oscar nod.
Dec 13 - 01:46 PM
I'm probably going to get a lot of crap for this but I greatly enjoyed Act of Valor, sure the acting kind of sucked but its a far more entertaining movie than The Hurt Locker ever was and its nice to see a movie where American soldiers are not portrayed as neurotic psychos but as the heroes they really and I loved the song at the credits by Kieth Urban an I'll be rooting for that song to win best song at the golden globes along with Bon Jovi even though Adele is unfortunately most likely going to win (as much as I loved Skyfall Adele is just a shitty singer)
Dec 15 - 09:56 AM
More entertaining than Hurt Locker? Really? In Act of Valor the American soldiers are just portrayed as action heroes instead of human beings, like in Hurt Locker, because that is what the general stupid audience wants to watch. Act of Valor was a disgrace. Moron.
Dec 16 - 01:35 PM
Well my dad, my sister, my girlfriend, my cousin, my uncle, and the majority of my friends all saw Act of Valor and enjoyed it just as much as I did, which made them part of the general audience and in your eyes I guess that would make them all stupid? You do realize that a person's taste in movies does not make them stupid nor does it make them a moron? Most people don't care about a film's artistic merit or whatever preachy bullshit message they are trying to shove down our throats. People go to the movies to be entertained and for chance of a little escapism. However I do believe that your comments was not a direct insult against me or anyone in particular but you should be careful what you put in writing because maybe one day somebody will take being called a moron quite seriously...like I did at first haha jk
Dec 16 - 08:53 PM
Oh and to clear the air I didn't think The Hurt Locker was a bad movie, its just an okay one not as great as the critics made it out to be. I will say that it was far better movie than jarhead ever was...now that was truly terrible movie haha
Dec 16 - 09:01 PM
By the way: Gage, you are off my shit list. Looking forward to waxing cinematic in the future! :)
Dec 17 - 12:47 PM
Dude Chris I'm not trying to get into an argument about politics or the military. I didn't enjoy Act of Valor because of how it portrays the military, I enjoyed it because it was entertaining and I enjoy watching action movies. Yes I did say in a previous comment that it was nice to see a movie where the soldiers were not portrayed as neurotic psychos but that is just my own opinion, I mostly enjoyed it for the sole purpose of being entertained. You stated that you served 8 years in the Navy; I have family and friends that have served in different branches of the military (army, marines, navy, etc) and I understand why you might find this movie offensive, nobody can really understand what its like fighting a war unless you have been there yourself. But does it really matter what movies people like? Does a person's taste in movies define who they really are or what their personal beliefs are? I honestly don't care what other people believe in or what tastes they have. We all have different beliefs that should be respected I apologize if I have offended you and I thank you for your service.
Dec 17 - 01:17 PM
Once again does it matter what movies people like? You liked The Hurt Locker and and that's fine and I liked Act of Valor and most people would leave it at that. I think your blowing this a little bit out of proportion, please tell me why does it matter that I like different movies than you do
Dec 17 - 02:13 PM
Forgive me, I suffer from PTSD and just upset how much shit we are in, you know what I'm saying? Seriously, it's depressing especially when ACT OF VALOR is like a distraction to what's really going on; then people absorb what they are seeing on truth, making it all the more worse. If you enjoyed ACT OF VALOR on the level, that's fine, all I ask is you not take it as gospel. Thank you for saying what I needed to be reminded of. This is the latest development which really makes me upset: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-12-13/world/35789204_1_rendition-flights-el-masri-european-court. What do you think?
By the way, I thought THE RAID: REDEMPTION was the best action movie of the year.
Agreed, The Raid: Redemption was quite possibly one of the best films I have seen all year
