Now THIS is what an awards show is supposed to look like. Let's face it, this has been an incredible year of really great films, so it's nice to see some movies get the recognition they deserve. But I wonder what the Academy must be thinking, especially with the Affleck snub? Probably, "Geez, we really effed up big time this year." Um, yeah, ya did.

I think the biggest snub this year from the Academy is The Master. Not even nominated to Best Cinematography. And I can see much more director work in Paul Thomas Anderson than in Affleck's Argo.

All I ask is that Wallis beats Chastain for Best Actress at the Oscars, but it's probably not going to happen. I love Chastain, but she deserves it for another movie.

I saw Wallis and she's adorable, Best Actress though? Seriously? Does she get extra points for being young or something? Her performance was literally a Be yourself. Be yourself while a shakey camera man with no expereience films you is amazing acting?

I completely agree! She was adorable and it was a commendable performance from someone so young. I think she's being exploited by the academy with that nomination to generate headlines and buzz before the show. I also share your views on the film itself. I really wanted to like it, but that camera work was awful - it actually made me feel ill - like being sea sick! No need for it - a tripod would not have blown the budget!

Sorry, but Wallis showed more range than 99% of the competition. How could anyone dismiss her performance as "naturalism"? This was the most transporting film of 2012 for me. Stunningly original on all levels.

Best Actress in an Action Movie was Anne Hathaway hands down, I think Jennifer Lawrence is quality, but that is a travesty.

It's great to have the various categories for movies. Let's face it, comedys, action and Sci Fi films will rarely if ever win against drama. Even if they are more popular with audiences (as they usually are). Question though - why was Looper nominated in two categories - action and Sci Fi? I would have thought one or the other to be sufficient. The Oscars would do better to expand their main stream movie categories and perhaps reduce the short film / documentary categories to make their show more appealing.

Really enjoyed the telecast and the uniformly focused and brief acceptance speeches but, please, someone explain to me how Les Mis could get a cinematography nod? Amateurish and redundant work. Mega disappointing.
